Moxie's Story Prologue

Once there was a kingdom ruled by a happy and peaceful family. The king, a cheerful and warm bearded dog who ruled the kingdom with love and care. The queen, a calm and souful feline who acts as the mother of the kingdom. Then there's Moxie, the young and beloved prince of the kingdom. The one who represented the hopes and dreams of the nation. Everything was happy and peaceful until one day everything went dark.
The clouds rolled in as if they were an angry rolling sea covering every inch of the sky, blocking out the sun until there was no light left.

The citizens gathered together outside of the royal castle, afraid. Never before have they ever seen such a terrible darkness, never before have they felt such dread.
The king and queen upon seeing the sudden darkness appeared on the castle balcony along with their young prince and royal advisor, a wise old dog named Benjamin.
Together they watched the clouds roll in until eventually they encompassed the entire kingdom.
The king frowned, feeling a terrible fate is to bestow them.

Suddenly something shot out from the clouds and landed on the royal balcony with a thud. The family jumped back.
From the dark and heavy mist a horned form emerged; their fur was striped and their long tail coiled. Their wings fluttered as they landed on their goat feet. Their skeleton face grinned and their purple eyes glowed.
Before the royals could think the demon sped towards them with darkness itself fathering around their fists. The king growled, readying for an attack until suddenly the monster turned towards the young prince, the one who holds all the hopes and dreams of the citizens, the one whose healing tears could bring to life all they touch, the one whom this monster wished to corrupt and to turn these tears of life into tears of death.
The creature threw the darkness towards Moxie and the whole city gasped in shock.
Before the darkness could hit Moxie however the king leapt in front of the attack and took the hit head on.
Moxie and the queen looked in horror as the darkness quickly spread over the kings body. His breathing became laboured and his eyes widened until he finally lost all control of his body and his mind. He snarled at all who approached, looking lost and terrified.

The monster frowned at having missed their target and readied another attack.
This time the queen grabbed and pulled Moxie out of the way, but not without the darkness grazing his paw.

The creature bared its teeth, infuriated at having missed again and getting ready for another attack- until finally! the guards arrived wielding weapons and magic. A group of guards went to protect the queen and moxie while the rest of the guards along with Benjamin tried to help the king but all he did was lash out, not recognising any of them.

The creature, seeing the royal guard approach them, stepped back and surveyed the area.
Seeing the king thrash about and spotting the small patch of darkness on Moxie's paw they threw a dark mist to the ground, causing the guards to choke.

When the mist cleared up the creature had vanished.
