Ever since Demone had moved her into his compound, Felicity had been on edge. Firstly, there were strange dextro everywhere and they all seemed to know who she was. They stared relentlessly whenever she left her room, so she had stopped going out. She had discovered that one of the women tasked with caring for her was Demone’s first wife. The woman rarely spoke, and when she did, she mostly mumbled incoherently. Her necrosis was obviously quite advanced, as was her age. The poor creature didn’t even seem to realize she was tending to the every need and whim of her husband’s soul mate.

Secondly, her child had still not arrived. Demone couldn’t corrupt them until after she gave birth and they couldn’t be together until she was rid of her pureness. Demone was thrilled at the chance to have a successor, but Felicity was worried he may end up spending more time with the child than was absolutely necessary. There were plenty of advisors who could train it. She was the love of his life, not her baby. He didn’t even know about the baby when they first met. The nursery was a nice touch, but there was no need to go overboard.

One of her nurses came in and offered her dinner and more books to read. Felicity thanked her, then she was alone again. She wondered where Demone was. Throughout the day he had lots of important tasks to oversee, but she wished he would pop in to visit her more often. Six times a day just wasn’t enough.

As Felicity was reading one of the novels the nurse had offered, her tea cup slipped off the table beside her. It shattered, sending porcelain everywhere. Felicity jumped. She hadn’t bumped the table, had she? The light bulb in the lamp flickered suddenly. Then she heard the whispering. Conspiratorial voices filled the room. “Hello?” She called out. Felicity went to open the door, but before she got there, the whispers turned to tortured howls. The shelves began to move in time with the yelling.

The howling and moaning continued. Felicity put her fin against the bookshelf. It began to rattle violently, knocking books and knickknacks onto the floor. She jumped back, falling onto her bottom.

There were hurried footsteps in the hall, then the shelf stopped moving. At the same moment, a nurse entered. “Are you okay!?” She asked.

”I- Yes, I think so.” Felicity accepted the offered hand and struggled to her feet.

”Did something happen?”

“Um... No, I just lost my balance.” Felicity smiled weakly.

“You ought to lie down and rest for a while.”

”Alright. Will you let Demone know I’m taking a nap, but it’s okay if he wakes me?”

“Of course.” The nurse helped Felicity into bed, then cleaned up the room and left.

”Your fiancee is sleeping.” The nurse advised him as they walked. “She seemed agitated earlier, but didn’t say why.”

A thin smirk stretched across Demone’s face. “Really? How odd. Well, I’ll check in on her later.” He said. “I’m sure she’ll want to tell me all about it.”
