Lucie

Mom had been gone for a couple days. Lucie found herself alone home with Roger and Dogan more and more often – as much as she loved them as family, she felt lonely. Above all, she was concerned – she remained unsure of her mother’s whereabouts, regardless of the many questions she had showered her with. Danaë had mentioned old friends, an important job she cared about very much. She would be back soon, arms heavy with gifts and warm lips pressed on her forehead, as she always did. Lucie trusted her mother, yet something felt off this time. There was a weariness about her, a silent concern that did not escape the little girl. Besides, there were things she would have liked to tell her mother but couldn’t find a right moment to confess what had weighed heavy on her mind. She had felt… strange, for a while. Saw her reflection in the middle of the night glimmering as if fireflies had found a home on her skin, her eyes glowing like two moons staring back at her. She knew it could only mean one thing, but for now, she would look the other way.
For now, she played alone, crouching on the ground, absentmindedly stirring dirt with a stick, mumbling to herself.

…got to go to the village…… maybe they have books about this.” She doubted Dogan would take her – perhaps she could ask Roger, later. He had been busy too – it felt like everyone was.
She hadn’t noticed the heavy steps coming closer. She only noticed when a shadow covered her frail figure, gasping in surprise as she promptly rose to her feet.
Malmr!” she called, throwing herself at the mountain of a man with a delighted giggle. She tilted her head towards the man with a bright smile, gazing deep into his warm eyes. “It’s been so long! I’m so happy to see you!” “I like your mask!” She beamed. She was eager for the company - the shoulder she could always lean on, the unexplicable familiar feeling Malmr always brought along. Maybe.... Maybe he could talk to Mom. Maybe it would be less difficult this way - Lucie only feared to scare her mother, and she knew magic felt to her like a curse.
