Adélïade sat behind the counter of her mom’s shop. It was a slow Sunday morning, not one customer yet. She could hear her mother moving around upstairs, probably looking for detailing pieces. It seemed like her mother was always upstairs sewing. She knew it was her mother’s passion, and her income, but still. Adélïade yawned and glanced at the clock. 11:30am, time to sweep the front. Begrudgingly she slid off the stool and grabbed the broom and headed outside.

The Sun was shining bright glinting off the glass window and the subtle sequining on a dress inside the window. Adélïade squinted a moment while adjusting to the light. Another bright and sunny day in the electric city. She sighed and start about her sweeping.

“Uuu” emanated a small noise from the small gap between the buildings. Adélïade look around briefly and shrugged her shoulders. Sometime the breeze blew through and made noises, though that was one she had never heard before. “Saaaa” cried from the small alley again. Adélïade scrunched up her face at the noise this time “that’s not right” she whispered to herself.

Adélïade squished herself down the alley towards the cries that were becoming more frequent at this point. She bumped into a blanket that cried out loudly. Adélïade let out small yelp at the blanket making a noise and then squatted down to grab it. As she went to close her fingers around the edge the bundle quickly moved down the alleyway “WAIT” Adélïade shouted instinctively moving after it.

The blanket bundle stumbled as it ran face planting onto the street just on the other end of the alley. “I said stop” Adélïade shouted as she managed to grab the blanket as she stumbled out of the alley as well. In her grab she tumbled pulling the blanket up revealing a rather beaten Teddiursa.

“Saaaaaaaa” the pokemon cried trying to pull the blanket back from Adelaide’s hands. Adélïade’s face was pure shock. A Teddiursa in town? No way. Not alone at least. The town was full of pokemon, all caught and domesticated, it was a high class town. As she stared in awe the Teddiursa managed to wrangle the blanket out of her grasp and began to squeeze back into the alleyway. “W-wait no don’t” Adélïade couldn’t help the outburst. The Teddiursa didn’t even look back though and kept waddling forward.

Adélïade pulled herself up off the ground and hurried back into the alleyway and scooped the Teddiursa up. “Wait you’re hurt” she whispered as the pokemon tried to fight out of her grasp. “Please let me help” she held tightly to the pokemon as she slid back down the alleyway to her home.

As soon as she arrived back to her side of the buildings she came face to face with her mother tapping her foot. “How could you just leave like that without telling me you kn-” her mother stopped mid sentence as she looked down from her child’s head to the beaten Teddiursa wrapped in a dirty blanket. “Nevermind, let’s get that sweet thing cleaned up.” He mother immediately ushered Adélïade into the shop locking the door behind them and flipping the open side closed.

Thirty minutes later both Adélïade and the Teddiursa were bathed and patched up. Adélïade hadn’t even noticed the scratch on her knee from tumbling out of the alley, it still wasn’t as important as the Teddiursa. Her mother showed her how to properly use a potion and bandage the few wounds that weren’t as easily healed. The Teddiursa had calmed down substantially and was now busy devouring a large helping of pokemon food while Adélïade and her mother (and her mother’s Delcatty) watched on.

“Do you think someone owns her?” Adélïade questioned her mother.

“If someone did they either did this to the poor think or they’re worried sick” Her mother said inspecting for more injuries on the Teddiursa. “We’ll have to put up posters you know, but if they seem like a bad person then we won’t give her back”

“Promise?” She looked at her mother with big eyes in quivering lip. She had obviously fallen in love with the pokemon in the mere hour they’d been together.

“I promise”

A week went by, fliers were posted up all over town announcing the found Teddiursa including a description of the cream and silver star patterned blanket it was found with. Every cafe in town had at least two posted on their community cork boards and most of the shops around town where more than willing to tape one to their windows. Clemont had even taken an interested and posted millions of the fliers around Prism Tower and inside his gym. And of course Nurse Joy was asking every trainer that stopped in. But there hadn’t been a single word of an owner for her.

Adélïade had taken it upon herself to find a name for the the Teddiursa. Lenore she decided. It was a pretty regal name that she felt fit the pokemon just right. Lenore herself had taken to the name and the attention quite well. She helped the best she could with shop chores and found herself sleeping in bed with Adélïade every night. Any person could tell that these two were meant to be together.

More weeks went by and soon Adélïade and her mother had forgotten all about the search. Still no news. Lenore was family now, and she belonged to Adélïade. They were best of friends from that fated day in the alley forward. Though no one knows when that pokeball turned up.
