Every part of Becca knew it was a suicide mission, even the file right in front of her said it. And yet, she still went anyways. (Note: this story has two endings and I'll be writing both a bad end and a good end that'll be in two separate chapters)

Prologue

“You’ve read the mission details and you know this is possibly a suicide mission. Are you sure you want to go?” At the moment, so many thoughts were roaming through Becca’s head that all she could do was nod as she focused her eyes on the mission details in front of her rather than the Tsaritsa nearby.

“I couldn’t be more sure if I tried.Just..” Becca paused to take a deep breath and continued “Please don’t tell Childe. He’s better off not knowing about this. Plus, he has a family he needs to be there for.” Noticing the Tsaritsa give her a confused look but nod regardless, she hid the mission details in her pocket and walked out of the room. Carefully walking to her room at the Fatui headquarters, she carefully started packing as her brain went into overdrive. At the end of the day, this was a suicide mission and she knew that.

Taking one last look around her room and making sure she had everything packed, she couldn’t get far before she felt an arm around her waist. Knowing who it was immediately, she immediately tensed up from nerves and simply gave him a kiss on the cheek when he gave her a confused look.

“Hope you didn’t wanna hang out, Ajax. I got a mission.” Hearing what sounded like a pout and feeling him hug her tighter, Becca let out a laugh. Meanwhile her brain wracked on trying to find a way to get out of there fast.

“How long are you gonna be gone?” Reaching up to run her fingers through his hair, Becca smiled. It was just as soft as ever and she knew this would possibly be the last time she’d ever get to touch it-to even feel Childe’s touch. Getting out of his grip, she smiled.

“It should only be a few days. Anyways I gotta get going. I love you.” Quickly giving Childe a hug and a kiss, she walked past him and made her way out of the Fatui headquarters. From then on, it was silent except for the quiet sound of footsteps on the road as Becca headed to her designation: some ruins just outside of Inazuma City.

~ Timeskip: A couple days later ~

As polearm hit machine, Becca grinned as she stunned it and quickly went into hiding, making sure to dodge the ruin guard missiles. Cursing herself for bringing a polearm that did all but nothing to the machines she was fighting, Becca took a risk and peeked around the wall she was behind. In sight were two ruin guards, a ruin hunter was deactivated nearby and there were at least 6 ruin sentinels roaming around.

As Becca was about to get another hit in, she was quickly bombarded by ruin guard missiles and although she managed to block or dodge most of them, she couldn’t dodge them all. Feeling the missiles hit her ribs, the polearm wielder all but screamed in pain as her ribs immediately felt out of place. As she focused on fighting, all she could think about was that the fatui records weren’t kidding when they said it was a suicide mission. And the more she thought about it, the more she was glad her goodbyes with Childe were the way they were.

~ Back at Fatui headquarters: 3 days later ~

“Childe, sir, I’m sure you don’t need to worry. Becca will be fine.” The nervous pyro agent’s attempts to calm Childe down were in vain as he paced the room restlessly. Childe had ordered any of the recruits to report when Becca was back and while he trusted her abilities, he was worried now. It had been almost a week since she had left and there was no word from anyone about her whereabouts.

Before Childe could respond to the agent, the sound of running footsteps caught his attention and as he turned towards the door, he noticed both a seemingly worried fatui recruit and something in the recruit’s arms that caused his eyes to widen.
