Chapter 1

ZINCWOLF

Grimsby let out a low breath as he watched the two riders from his spot on a low rock outcropping. His gaze, if it were possibly, would've been narrowed to icy blue-green slits, but as it was he merely stared at them with a focused and annoyed glare.

Malakai was currently paying him no mind, laid flat on his back and mumbling to himself as the weak, but slowly warming spring sun washed over his front, his cloak shielding his back from the colder ground. It was a nice contrast . He was fiddling with a new tool he'd made, having grown frustrated with the ones he had not doing what he wanted them to do. It looked mostly like a modified screw driver and rattled when he moved it around in his hands

FRIGHTS-AND-NIGHTS

Tail giving a slight twitch at times against the grass blades, Fidelia watched as Malakai fiddled with his new contraption. Her legs were crossed over each other, sitting up compared to the lying down vernid. A notebook with notes and sketches was thrown open upon her lap, the page showing sketches working out a piece of chest armor for dragons. A new deal made with a client whose dragon was short-tempered and looked beaten as they nuzzled against their rider.

A finger lazily smoothed out creases found on the page, her eyes watching Malakai's movement.

"Why a new screwdriver?" She finally asked, tail lightly flicking against his arm.

Laid a bit farther away from the riders, and near the lake's shoreline was Akeem. His eyes closed and gills fluttering a bit. Next to his side, or really, perched on one of his raised, leather wings, was Vita. She carefully curled around a tip of the wing, eyes watching the area around them. Her claws grabbed hold to the wing's arm, body focused away from the body of water. Body frigid as she looked over the nearby dragons.

ZINCWOLF

Malakai let out a long sigh and let his arms rest on his chest, a frustrated look crossing his features.

"It uh... the ones I have - its..." he frowned deeply, really looking like he was trying to concentrate, before he finally came out with something that was, while almost completely lacking in a passable accent, was fairly passable Spanish. "The old ones were no funciona...?"

He paused, before he grew a little self conscious and said it in English anyway. "They weren't working... how i wanted them to work, anyway. This is just a prototype"

Grim, finally seeming to notice the others, let out a long sigh and turned his head towards them. Begrudgingly, he raised one of his sail like wings into the air in greeting, a flare of neon colours in a sea of darker greens and greys.

FRIGHTS-AND-NIGHTS

A purr broke out from Fi's throat at his attempt at Spanish, ears perking up. She lightly tapped the tip of her tail against his elbow, before relaxing against his side.

"You said it correctamente," She reassured him, before flicking her gaze to the screwdriver. "What does this one do? That's diferente from your last ones?"

Vita let out an excited squawk at the sight of Grim, lightly scrambling against Akeem's wing. She paused, spine curling at the sight of the water, before turning to look at Akeem.

"Take me to him!" She ordered, lightly tapping her claws at his arm.

He huffed, grinning as he looked at her through a peered eye. Dramatically, he flopped his wing down to the ground, sending Vita off with a roll.

"You alright, Vee?" He chuckled as she dusted herself off, turning her burning gaze onto him.

She squawked angrily, going to nip at his wing, before watching him shuffle it back to him. He simply snorted at her, letting her angrily bat at him. He twisted his head away though when she tried to kick sand at him, with her giving one last squawk at him, before flying off to Grim.

Landing on the rock he laid at, she rubbed herself against his side, before lying down. Her tail tip twitched in anger, glaring down at the rock that showed through her claws.

ZINCWOLF

"Its, uh..." he trailed off at the tap, kind of relieved he'd actually said it right. "It changes the tip with a press of a button, and it can bend. See..."

After speaking, he held it up a little more, showing her the obvious hinges on the thing. It looked messily soldered, and definitely not up to scratch with his usual stuff, but it was still clear what it was supposed to look like. "

Actually... I was going to ask if you could give me a hand. Tools are more your thing... mines more designing and getting stuff to work when I already have all the components"

Grim bared his stiff fangs at Akeem by opening his mouth a little as he flung Vita, but seeing her attack almost immediately after, he clamed down a little, his tail flicking with irritation. He only settled when she came to lay beside him, glaring at the ocean dragon the entire time, a low rumble in his throat.

"Arse" he snapped under his breath

FRIGHTS-AND-NIGHTS

"Huh," She murmured, peering down at the screwdriver.

She could see why it was considered a prototype, it wa s messy and would have trouble to be comfortable while working. As well as the possibility of something falling off midwork, but the idea was there. And he get to work by the looks of it.

Her ears perked at his next words, her gaze now meeting his. Her cheeks burned a bit, tail instinctively moving to curl closer around her, but she stopped such actions.

"Of course, amigo," She finally said, turning to shut her notebook. "Do you have the blueprints for it?"

Vita peered open an eye to look at Grim, tail twitching against her slender body. She hummed in agreement, claws tentatively stretching out to lay against his front legs. She moved to nestle against his side, watching as Akeem twisted his head to watch the lake waves.

"Just play," she finally said, noticing how Grim's mouth was open to show off his fangs. She lightly smacked her thin tail against his back leg, grinning up at him. "What makes it different when you try biting me?"

ZINCWOLF

"Yeah, back in my pocket... I more just brought this out here to uh... give it to you, I guess" he murmured, clearing his throat as he moved to wrestle them out of his cloak. "and to give the dragons some exercise too. Y'know. Obviously"

"I don't like it" Grim mumbled quietly, a slight reverb in his voice from his irritation, but he settled again with a snort as he looked down to her. "Why were you on his wing?"

FRIGHTS-AND-NIGHTS

"Oh, uh," Fidelia paused, voice tightening a bit, ears lightly pressing back.

Her tail did twitch itself more or less back to her as she shuffled backwards so he could get his paper. Her cheeks were burning more and she twisted her head away from his to avoid him seeing how red her face was likely becoming. '

Get yourself together!' She hissed to herself, fingers gripping her notebook.

Her tail relaxed at hearing him mention the dragons. She huffed a bit, shoulders relaxing and glancing back to him.

"Well, yeah. How many dragons do you have?" She teased, smoothing down her voice as she responded. "You're lucky none have decided to get their own parajas."

Vita let out a snort, bopping her snout against his chin, fins rising in excitement.

"I was dozing when we landed and he decided to lay down like a cábron," She chortled, before finned crest pressing down against herself. "So I climbed onto his wing. He perched it for me. We were just playing."

She snorted to herself, looking down to her claws again.

ZINCWOLF

Dragons - something they seemed to both relax a little more while talking about. A common ground Malakai had been appreciating more and more after the last few awkward months without even realizing it. Things got awkward? Talk about something grim or vita had done. Something just felt a bit to real for him? Oh, look, theres Rivia being cute.

Dragons were always an out, and seeing the commotion just now as well as her question, Malakai was more then happy to continue it as he pulled out the scraps of rolled up, ink blotched blueprints and reached up above his head to hand them to her, laying flat on his back again.

"... Here. But," he frowned slightly, but just snorted, good humoured. He even ended his statement with a small tease. "You know how many dragons I have, surely? They've not changed since the last time you've been round. Unlike you - yours seem to multiply every time we talk"

"Well, good" he grumbled, curling his tail around them both and resting his head back on the rocks, going back to openly glaring at Malakai and Fidelia. "I still don't like it...." he mumbled, clearly not talking about Akeem any more if you noted where his shift in attention had landed (edited)
