Following a rumor, Iniko found himself out in the wilds trying to track down a creature known only as Dire Bear to the locals. Rumors talked about a giant bear like creature, and the latest villianges to run in with it, came back screaming.

Iniko was brave, bold, and sure willed. He would be fine. At least that’s what he thought before he found the fabled creature.

Iniko stood face to face with the largest reosean he had ever met. Revas clutched to his neck tightly, crooning softly and shaking in fear. The small gryph was digging her talons into his skin, and he was regretting having such short fur to take the brunt of her talons.

Shaking its head, the bear like reosean definitely lived up to the nickname of Dire Bear. The shape was easily mistaken for one of the lumbering animals, with brutish claws and paws to match. Iniko knew that if the creature swiped at him, it might be the end of it.

“Uhh, hi.” It wasn’t normal that the puller was tongue tied, but he couldn’t help it! He came to see if the rumors were true but expected a bear, or maybe a reosean using mentalist powers to scare away people. But this was unreal!

With a growl, the hard edged, blanketed reosean turned away, and that was when his familiar’s avian eyes caught glimpse of something. She pointed a taloned hand at the retreating figure, drawing Iniko’s attention to it as well.

Two arrow shafts sticking out of it’s shoulder.

Forgetting his fear, Iniko braved forward. “Oh hey! You’re hurt! Can I help?” He called out, Revas gripping his neck tightly as he moved.

The larger vay snarled and turned, starling the puller and making him step back again. Clearly “dire bear” wasn’t one for words, turning away once they successfully scared the intruder. Which was funny considering some of the other rumors about the creature liking hunting competitions and crafting.

“I know someone who knows first aid, I might be able to help.” Iniko received a grunt in response, and the sandstone puller mustered the courage to walk forward again. His gryph squawked and pulled at what little fur he had, but he ignored her warnings to follow after the tribal marked vayron.

The creature was fascinating. The markings on their back was mesmerizing, and Iniko couldn’t keep his eyes off the other reosean. There were rune-like markings like a bracelet on a back leg, and a fun little design on the cheeks. The outline on the blanket came to a perfect point on the forehead, and they were nice and fluffy.

“So do you live around here? Where have you been that no one was talking about you before?”

A low growl was the only response, and Iniko followed behind him as they led the way to wherever they were going. The arrows didn't seem to hinder them at all, and they lumbered with a fair amount of grace. In fact, the more Iniko looked, the more he realized those arrows must have been there for quite some time. There was no blood, the fur laid around them like it was the most natural thing in the world, and if he peered closely, there was no sign of infection or redness. How strange!

“So where are you going?” Now that the other one was less combative, even Revas was taking an interest, and her feathers fluffed as she climbed to Iniko’s head for a better look.

There was still no response as they continued their travels. Iniko was convinced they would never stop walking when the bear-like creature finally slowed the pace when they approached a cabin.

Iniko would have expected a cave maybe, or a nest in the middle of a secluded area, but a cabin was just breaking his mind.

The other reosean pushed open the door and made its way inside, and Iniko didn’t know what to do. He stood in the doorway, peeking in with his companion.

The cabin was the house of a crafter, as most surface’s Iniko saw were covered in supplies to make things, most prominently straw and yawn and things to make the normal Yule animal dolls for the holidays.

“Come on, I have cocoa since you were stubborn enough to follow.” The rumbling voice echoed through the cabin, and Iniko didn’t have to be told twice to step through into the cabin. Oncehe got past the first room, he found himself in a lovely little sitting area, and his new companion around the table. As promised there were two mugs of cocoa, and even a small tray of nuts and berries that Iniko only assumed was from his gryph.

Iniko settled in, giving his thanks before taking a sip, his face lighting up as he tasted pepper flakes. Perfection.

“If you’re going to stay around a while, you can help me with the straw. I make as many as I can for the holiday, and get them distrubed across the continent. I won’t say no to some extra help.”

“Come on Revas, the least we can do for bothering this lovely reosean is to lend a paw!” The small gryph chirped and Iniko couldn’t think of anything better to do for the holiday. Making offerings for the spirits sounded like a great way to spend time. They would be happy to assist the larger reosean, and maybe, just maybe, Iniko’s persistence would pay off and he could get some stories out of him.

-End-

Recently, there’s been some rather strange reports of a bear-like creature living in a nearby cave. Everyone is curious as to what the creature is, and if it’s dangerous. Naturally, your Reosean decides to investigate and see if they can solve the mystery once and for all. Draw or write about your Reosean encountering Dire Bear in the wilderness. Are they shocked by the Reosean’s appearance, relieved to find they’re a Reosean, or do they high-tail it out before finding out what the creature is?
