Russell & Izan relationship trivia
Even after like 18 years of being married, Russell and Izan still have romantic candlelit dinners when it's just the two of them. Although Russell is the one who's actually good at cooking, Izan will absolutely try to return the favour when he can, but he does it by checking out big recipe books from the library and trying really hard to follow the instructions. Russell originally proposed during one of the dates where Izan had made dinner; he offered to show Izan a magic trick of his own, and when he got to the part where he said "is this your card?" he showed a card that had "will you marry me?" written on it.
Their house has a garden and they do the gardening together. At one point they tried to start a vegetable garden, but it didn't work very well. Because Russell is friends with all of the nearby farmers, word of their "failed harvest" got around and they received an extremely large amount of vegetables from a lot of different people because they "just happened" to have some extra zucchinis that they needed to get rid of. After that embarassment, they decided to stick to pretty flowers and some herbs.
They're very supportive parents to Ceciel, and have encouraged her inquisitive spirit to the irritation of the other townsfolk. They are aware of the supernatural weirdness of the town they live in and its immediate surroundings, but don't consider it dangerous. Many of the supernatural beings in the area are friendly and protective of people who are nice to them, so they're not worried that anything bad will happen to her. Izan does dislike the vampire librarian, but that has nothing to do with the fact that she drinks blood. How Russell and Izan came to adopt Ceciel was because Kalina's mom found baby Ceciel in a cabbage patch (this is not normally where babies come from) and thought, "Hey, the mail man and his nerdy school-teacher husband would be the perfect parents for this random extra kid I found!"
In the weekend they like to go for walks in the nearby forest or to the beach. They also both like to read, and in the evenings they'll often talk about books. They like to do the crossword puzzle from the newspaper together, and sometimes they'll play Scrabble. Izan regularly tries out magic tricks on Russell and Ceciel (and on anyone else he knows, for that matter).
