Loop de Loop curled around the egg, warming it with his internal fires. The egg had been moving, just barely, so it was almost time for it to hatch. Loop gave the top of the egg a gentle lick. From the kitchen, Kyrie looked over and smiled at the sight. "Doing alright?" they said. "You're gonna be a great dad, Loop."
Loop nuzzled the egg and rested his head on his paws. Kyrie went back to their cooking.
The other eevees mostly left Loop and his egg alone, as the flareon growled at them whenever they got close. Kyrie compared him to a brooding mother, which wasn't all inaccurate. It was just him and Kyrie when the egg made a sound.
Loop snapped his head up. The egg twitched, and a soft tap tap scratch was audible from inside. Loop barked and pressed his nose to the egg, wordlessly encouraging his child. Kyrie heard none of it, their attention focused on the frying pan.
Cracks appeared on the surface. Loop pressed his nose harder. The cracks spread out from a single point, until finally, a damp head burst through, squeaking. Loop de Loop set to work licking his child clean.
Kyrie turned off the stove. "Oh!" they said in surprise. "It hatched! Congratulations, Loop!"
Loop purred and continued cleaning the egg residue off the mewling eevee.
"Kid must be busy after all that work hatching." Kyrie picked up their plate. "Do you want some scrambled… uh…"
Loop de Loop shot Kyrie a disgusted look, picked up the eevee by the scruff, and walked away.
