Years after getting killed and wandering the Desaulniers manor alone, Roselyn ends up at Oletus Manor as a hunter. She had expected to have a chance to start over, to just live the life hunters in the manor normally lived, not to run into a way too familiar face from the past

Little note for this story: Roselyn's official title as hunter is Revenant yet I call her Roselyn when talking about her to make things consistent

Prologue

“You must be Roselyn if I’m not mistaken.” Hearing her name, the white-haired hunter turned towards the door to be met with one of the other hunters. Her first impression was that he was way too tall, and that he had a stupid hat but she brushed that thought aside, especially when her main concern was that he could see her.

“Just call me Revenant.. It’s what Nightingale calls me. Wait.. you can see me?” When the other hunter in the room chuckled, Roselyn didn’t know whether to be intimidated or upset that they were laughing at her.

“Of course, you are not the only dead hunter here and consider it part of the manor’s charm.” At the mention of being dead, Roselyn tensed up. While she had known she was dead for years, and used to being lonely because of it, it was still something she struggled to process. “I’m getting off track Revenant, some of the other hunters wanted to meet you and I’d told them I’d introduce you."

Socializing was the last thing on her mind but Roselyn nodded and headed towards the door, turning her gaze behind her when she realized the other hunter hadn’t even introduced himself. Not that she planned to be anywhere near him from now on, but that didn’t matter at the moment.

“My name is Jack by the way. I’d remember it.” As the taller hunter walked past her and gestured for Roselyn to follow, she sighed, took a deep breath and followed after him. The walk to the hunter’s dining table was silent but she couldn’t help but be relieved listening to the younger hunter, who called themselves Robbie, talk. As she watched Jack do a dramatic gesture, one thing ran through her head: to get as far away from him as soon as possible.

Within no time she had gotten to meet most of the hunters but one thing caught her attention, the way everyone mentioned this “photographer” around her like the two were related. Being the new hunter herself, she wouldn’t have thought much about it but it was the way they mentioned his in-game abilities that caught her attention.

“Are you gonna keep saying this “photographer” and I are related?”

“I apologize for making you uncomfortable, you two just look really similar.” The hunter who had said that, Mary, gave Roselyn a reassuring smile that she wouldn’t push before going back to the food they were all enjoying. Well, all but one. Roselyn didn’t have time to get her to elaborate before Nightingale had walked in.

“Roselyn.. Im sorry, Revenant. You have a match.” Nodding in response, she got up and headed to the match lobby. Before this, Roselyn had only done a few matches but it was enough to know the basics. Walking in the lobby, she was expecting it to be a typical match, albeit a few annoying survivors. What she wasn’t expecting was to walk past a man that looked a bit too similar to her brother that had disappeared years ago.
