Finding the mage in Question was no issue at all. She was quite infamous for hunting Witchfinders. She had already killed quite a few and she wasn’t particularly secretive about it either. He saw her face plastered all over his small hometown recently, so it came to no surprise when he was ordered to find and bring the woman back to the Order. But of course, there had to be some reinforcement from Namarast as well. Both fellas had quite the opinion about this mage, and of other mages as well. He could catch them whispering all secretive to themselves and overall, they just looked like they would have liked to take him in as well. Verek just laughed it off and jokingly told them to be on the lookout for some Monsters to hunt.
When he got a closer look at the mage though… She did not seem like the posters described her at all. Rather than attacking and murdering his troop she just willingly went with them. Something was off though. She seemed to look right through the other two, but her cold gaze had rested upon himself for quite some time. Her eyes had this eeriness about them he just could not place, but they were not the ones of the evil Witch that was sold to the simple people on the street, of that, he was sure. But she did take the lives of so many people. He couldn’t just look past that.
His attention was caught by the people that tried to stop their little Caravan.  He instantly recognized their faces.
 “Yasin!”
He exclaimed smiling. Yasin and his two brothers were sentinels at the outer gates. Verek knew them well and they were good people. But he did wonder, what they were doing out here.
“As you can see, we don’t need any more reinforcements.”
He leaned slightly forward and gestured to the captured mage. But his expression was lingering between disgust and confusion.
“Whats the matter? Did your pastries not agree with you today?”
He asked jokingly, but Yasim avoided to even look in his direction now. As did his two brothers. It seemed like they were not in a joking mood today.
“Why did you bring the mage? Do you even have the Papers for that?”
He hissed out.
Verek sat back up and sighed. His smile had gone. He had heard rumors about these kinds of things and the organization associated with them. And he did agree with some of their goals. But this was not the way to go right now. He swung the reigns of his mount over its head and jumped off its back to talk to them. This felt more comfortable than just looking down on them.  In the corner of his eye he could catch a glimpse of the two witchfinders shooting him dirty looks.
Whats the holdup? We don’t have time for these criminals!”
He gave them a sharp look in return.
“Oh, shut your mouthflap Boy, before more stupid pours out.”
His strict voice usually was enough to shut their likes up and they had been testing his patience all day already. He turned his attention back to Yasim, who now was looking at him with disappointment.
“Listen… I know how you and your folk think about this, but you must agree, that we need to capture a murderer. Mage or not. I want your families to be safe.”
Yasim sighed.
“ We know that. But how can we be sure those asshats do their job correctly?”
They all knew how Witchfinders and some of the Orders Hunters could be. And he had every right to be distrusting.
“I know. But that’s what you have me for. I will make sure nothing happens to her until she is properly trialed. I always do.”
He tried to play for both sided here. The mage could not be let go without a trial and someone had to bring her in. So reasoning with these boys was his best bet.
Yasim looked defeated and turned around to his brothers who just shrugged.
“Alright…. But only because its you …”
This wasn’t the result the brothers had hoped for, but it was a compromise.
Verek smiled and put a hand on his shoulder.
“Thank you.”
He really meant that. These were hard times for any mage and their close ones, and he understood that there was a lot of anger floating around. It just needed to be directed at the right people. And even though they were pretty arrogant assholes, these weren’t them. Yasim mustered a little smile and the three of them went on their way.
Verek looked at the two Hunters again who seemed to become more disgruntled by the minute. He chuckled to himself and got back up on his Horse. The rest of the Way was rather uneventful and they got to turn over the Mage without further issues. With the promis still in the back of his mind he talked to some people to ensure nothing would happen to her before her trial. Yet he still felt bad, because he never saw Yasim so disappointed before. He had to talk to him again later.
