The Last Wish...

Weak. Weak. Weak.

That’s what he was. The physical attribute carried over from his past life to his so-called godhood. Not one of the most desirable aspects of himself, but a part nonetheless. What came after the weak was the strong, it didn’t take much. Like a toothpick standing upright, so easily was he pushed down. The landing was soft, yet the spike through his chest was not.

The relief spread through his body, or was it adrenaline? He couldn’t tell. The faintest of smiles crossed his pale face, worn with age and stress over the years. Yes. This was where he died. This is how it was supposed to be. He was never meant to come this far, to make these… friends. Friends. A weird phrase, foreign to his mouth like that crimson liquid that pooled from his lips in the moment. Yes, they were friends. Not all, but some. At some point he had enjoyed some of the others’ company, their presence was.. reassuring. Aki’s. The pillar of reason. Weiss. The grief stricken god like him, his love. Nina. The sensitive girlboss who was charming in a way. Ai. The butterfly queen of strange and often concerning statements. Yes. He had grown quite fond of them, looking back. Tired eyes closed behind a blank but pleasant face.

"𝘐𝘧 𝘐’𝘮 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴."

His eyes fluttered open. Ai’s butterflies. Who would be there to take care of them if he were gone? The other rats? Would he never see them again if he died?

𝘕𝘰, 𝘯𝘰, 𝘯𝘰..

No… no.. no. Tears sprang to the man’s eyes. No, no, no! He didn’t want to die. He was scared. So incredibly scared. He thought this was what he wanted. But it wasn’t. Soft sobs choked through the blood that filled his mouth, frail hands clawing at the spike lodged in his chest. He didn’t want to die! He wanted to be with his… friends. All he had ever wanted was to belong, to feel comfortable, to be loved. He was shaking, sobbing, color draining. He could feel his life slipping away.

𝙉𝙤… 𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚… 𝙄 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚..

The lifeless body twitched for a second longer before dropping to a deathly silence. The man was no more. He had achieved what he thought he had ever wanted, only to find out in the end, he wanted to be loved.
