It was hot, nothing new of course. Summertimes in Loria were usually hot, but today was just especially warm. Today was almost hot enough to enjoy the freezing, nearly, sub-zero temperatures of one of the many lakes scattered around Loria’s less explored areas, and come back still breathing. Today was a comforting thought for indoor activities, marbles or a game of chess perhaps? Thoughts like these easily evade recognition in an empty, tired mind, which was just what a bored person needed on a day like this.

But today, as hot as it was, was not a day for thinking. It was a day for lying around and doing and doing

“Nothing.”

“Today,” Hiko started, muttering to herself, “is a day for doing nothing.”

Hiko came to the back door, slowly but surely in the sluggish mood she was in, and grabbed at the door knob. Now the door was an old, stubborn thing, and didn’t plan on going anyway without being forced to move anytime soon. Now to be fair, it wasn’t used much, it was often overlooked because it was so covered in maps, spare pieces of parchment with self indulgent drabbles, reminders, various nonsensical statements, and other countless things produced by the boredom of someone who gets enjoyment out of obscure things. Now, still muttering to herself about the potential current location of the doorknob so covered in paper, Hiko gave up. Not willing to ruin her “wall of memories”, and finally decided to go back to her spot on the floor and lie down and do nothing. Again. “Back already? I thought your search for the doorknob would have proved more successful since you're the main cause of the chaos over there.” The voice was a sweet, familiar one, and welcomed anytime too. The voice belonged to her childhood friend, and foster sister and the one she had grown up with as well. “Yes, Mawry. Today I feel like being…” Hiko paused as she took time to readjust herself to her familiar life back on the floor next to Mawry, “predictable.” “You’re predictable?” Mawry stated, “that’s not exactly a word I would use to describe you. You’re like… the exact opposite of predictable. You’d get bored too easily.” Hiko chuckled and sat up, then gradually stood up again, retreating from her position once more and headed to the front door this time. “I’m heading out Maws.” “In this heat?” “Oh I won’t be going very far,” Hiko explained, accentuating some syllables. Just going over to bug Felix for a bit.” “Okay!” Mawry responded, “if you get food buy me something please.” Hiko rolled her eyes playfully, “Alrighty, anything you want in particular?” Mawry sighed, “Nothing hot.”

Hiko gave a thumbs up and headed over to the front door this time, which was quite the opposite of its messier friend in the back. Hiko found the knob this time and headed out. She made her way over to her wooden sandals and slipped them on, knocking off the dirt and sand that had been there previously by tapping the ground with her foot. Her next objective was to find her bike that she had probably placed somewhere around the porch. She glanced around for it and found it in the yard, just lying there after being carelessly left there after the last trip with it. “There you are!” Hiko quietly exclaimed in a most important triumph. She picked the bike up, sloppily brushing off dirt that stuck to it with her hands and took it to the end of the dirt road, running a bit as she went along.
