S’mores blinked, her tail gently gracing the soft grass below, a smile spread across her face. Today was beautiful. Birds sang triumphant songs as a gentle breeze cooed and ruffled their feathers. The axolotl loved to be outside in such weather, as a serene feeling would always wash over her, eyes fluttering as her tail swayed with the beat of the wind.

But today wasn’t like any other day. Today something special would happen. Don’t get me wrong, S’mores wasn’t the least popular animal in the land. She had some friends, but she enjoyed smaller groups of creatures anyways.

Her optics gazed around, squinting at the sun beating down rays on her skin. Her gills waved around as she let her head rest on one of her legs, hearing the bird's continuous chirping. But something caught her eye! Something moving . . . odd. Her head tilted, emerging from her resting place. “Hello?” She yipped, tail curling around the front of her. She grabbed onto it, bringing it close to her face as a sort of shield.

But what emerged from the reeds was not what she expected. A brown axolotl, a smile printed and pressed neatly on his face, darker spots covering his body. He waved, mouth opening to speak. “Heya! Whatcha doing out here? A little lonely, don’t ya think?”

“Lonely?” S’mores replied back quickly, eyes showing signs of confusion. “It’s not lonely!”

“But you’re alone, aren’t you?” The other axolotl responded, his eyes questioning yet playfully challenging.

“The birds are enough company! Though I do have friends, I quite enjoy spending some time alone out here.” S’mores plopped down on the ground, looking back.

“Yeah, I get that. Mind if I join you though? Maybe it’d be nice to have a chat with someone out here! What’s your name? I’m Cookie!”

“S’mores!” She smiled, patting a patch of grass next to her. Cookie sat down without hesitation, his eyes wandering around the trees and bushes, pausing on the chirping birds before continuing to explore the land with his eyes.

“It’s really beautiful.” He finally spoke.

S’mores made no reply, simply nodding in agreement.
