One-shot of Beetle's Backstory! Mentions Beetle, Vermillion, and Oracle, while also hinting at mention of Carmine and Sadoko. Really short - imo. May have a tiny bit of hinted flirting but idk lol

This was written before I redesigned Vermillion, so it's written with a description of her soon-to-be redesign. Beetle was redesigned before I wrote this lol

It was this again. This dream - no, nightmare - that tortured them every night. That same canine, multiple tails, black wings that looked more like that black abyss of their mindset the longer they stared.
Every night, the same thing. The same damn nightmare, plaguing their tired, yet restless, mind; it was torture.

Beetle felt trapped. Their singular eye locking with this demons third - which sat nicely on the center of her forehead. That’s when they noticed that she had started moving, stepping forward towards Beetle.

The chase was beginning.

Each night, after a long staring contest - as if they were challenging each other - she would chase; and Beetle would run.
With Beetle’s long limbs, so far, they had been able to outrun her - the one whose name must never be spoken. They weren’t sure why, but out there - in the real world - The Oracle had warned them.

“Never say its name. Do not think about its name. You must not talk about the demon in red with abyss black wings; or she will come for you, and she will catch you.”

Beetle had no issue with avoiding her name. How could they speak it when they couldn’t speak in general? They were mute, not a single noise escaping their throat - if they even had one. That’s when they snapped back into this dream-reality, skidding to a stop. Fuck. They missed the turn they’d usually take during the chase and they were at an edge. A cliff face so sheer, so deep that all you could see was black. Glancing around, Beetle spun around. There she was, dragging herself out of the shadows. They locked eyes again, both monotone looking creatures staring the other down.

Neither spoke for the longest time, until her voice - a soft, angelic tone - broke the silence.

“You got distracted. You missed your turn. Why? Did I distract you, or were you wanting to be caught?” She was quiet, but Beetle couldn’t help but gently lean in. This was the first time they had heard her talk.. And her voice was beautiful. She continued, “You poor thing. You lasted so long.. I’d hate to end it here,” the Demon in Red almost purred, padding closer. She was aware of Beetle’s reach and strength. She was ready for them to swing at her…

But they never did.

“You want to be powerful. You’re sick of those poodles leaving you behind, aren’t you?”

Beetle stared before giving her a soft nod. She knew everything - everyone - and she knew exactly what they wanted.

“Let me help you, Beetle. I only ask for one, very small thing in return, my dear,” She cooed, wrapping a wing around the fairly larger specimen.

“Pledge yourself to me, and I’ll give you everything you’ve ever wanted.”
