Egg Care

On the water’s edge, a docked ship was busy but not as busy as it was on an average night. It was a three day weekend for the working class and they had their rush already, but now people were turning in to prepare for the coming work day that was tomorrow. Business was good, and the steady work without being so busy one couldn’t think was a nice change in pace that Mozane always enjoyed. It gave him time to clean up his area, and gave his workers time to regather themselves and possibly get in some sitting time as they counted tips and took a break.

He was currently cleaning glasses, removing any water spots that had dried upon them after using hot water and left out to dry. They were without a doubt clean, but perfection came from finer details even if they went unnoticed by the patreons. From the corner of his eyes he seen one of his workers soothing down his clothes, blending in well with the low light area, before off once more as more people came in to have a seat and possibly get something to eat (and more than likely at least something to drink).

“Hey, Mr Crabs! Can we get another round of drinks over here?” Turning his head up slightly at the call, a scowl was on his face as he set down the glass next to his newly acquired egg.

“Ye be as witty as a drunken parrot, ye bloody squiffy blowfish.” Taken aback for a moment, the small group of average looking warpas looked between each other at the reply, though the muscular redhead did pour them a round of drinks and slide them down. He had far better things to do than deal longer with a group of drunken fools who adored coming up with new nicknames for him.

With everyone seeming to be preoccupied on a rather slow night of work, Mozane had more of a chance to look over the egg brought to him. Ever since Ray and Serpent had a child of their own, they had become more scarce while raising it up to be not as strange as the father. A well meaning feral warpa, by all means, but not privy to all the social etiquettes in normal day to day life. Ray suggested getting a pet of some sort to keep him company in the meantime, and low and behold an event of some sort was being hosted in Ailin Monster Park. He wasn’t all that knowledgeable about the usual happenings, but it seemed like a good opportunity to test the water. At a worse case, he knew another warpa who adored strange pets and would happily take it off his hands.

The egg was currently sitting on a pillow in a box, carefully wrapped in a blanket he had laying around the bar. It was a mostly brown and tan capsule looking egg with a golden splotch. The coloration reminded him of a more natural creature, or of those face dinosaur figurines that younger children would carry around and play with while their guardians indulged in non children friendly activities that would spawn many years of therapy in the future. It felt light enough to him, or lighter than similar eggs of that size.

A curious thing as of right now, though he was set on would it be the companion for him or just another thing to care for like Ray had become over the years. No matter how much of a grumpy old man he was and appeared to be, he was soft enough to bond with another living creature over time and feel bad enough to keep to it as long it also seemed happy to be with him.

“Sir, I have an order for you for one of the tables.” A soft voice interrupted his thoughts, seeing the dark colored warpa before him with a piece of paper torn off from his pad of paper with writing upon it.

“Thank ye, Loki. Leave it on the table, 'n be on yer way.” Watching as they set the paper down closest to him before turning, he hummed before calling at him. “Get 'em ears out o' yer hair! Or they'll be sore later.” Watching the other jump a little before scurrying off more, earning a smile from Mozane as he picked up the paper to see what was being ordered.

“More drinks foor usss, capyain!” The group at the bar called, though, were ignored for a moment. They paid well but needed to be cut off for a bit anyways, lest they start getting too rowdy and causing troubles on his ship.

“Deep fried battered fish and fried potato wedges, with a glass of brandy. Easy enough if I do say so myself.” Turning to stare at the egg a bit more, he pat it. Could it feel his touch? He wasn’t sure, but he hoped whatever did come out of it was what he needed for companionship.
