Luca comes from a secluded village that doesn’t have much interaction with anyone else. His parents are village artisans, which in this village, are seen as respected people. I’d like to think that the artisans of the village are actually some sort of artificer collective that makes some sort of magical based items. Maybe even some of the older artisans of the village make golems or guardians to protect the village, since they’re more experienced and all that.

The only interaction Luca has ever seen with the “outside world,” is by the same group of traders who travel to Luca’s village. There are a few of them, all wearing crimson red robes with a golden rose embroidered upon it. These traders come with boxes of supplies that the village lacks and/or are running out of. They trade these boxes for products that the artisans create, and then they leave. Once Luca had seen the traders get a little hostile towards the leader of his village, pointing a sword or some sort of weapon at him. Luca couldn’t hear anything they were saying, but the trader backed off and left without a problem and returned the next month.

Luca hasn’t learned the art of artisans in his village, I’m imagining it’s because the elders of the village think Luca would cause some sort trouble with knowing how to make magic based items. Experimenting and creating things that aren’t normal. Possibly figuring out something that the elders don’t want them finding out. So the elders told Luca’s parents to not teach Luca the art of their village. So Luca’s parents essentially told Luca that he wasn’t suited for the work of an artisan, that he didn’t have the gift that many of the other villagers had. Of course Luca got upset, but he moved on eventually.

Luca is a very curious person, sticking their nose into things and prying into matters he probably shouldn’t. He has probably gotten in trouble before for getting caught doing things he shouldn’t have. He would do anything in his power to quench his thirst for knowledge. So when Luca had first learned about the book that only the highest authority elders of the village had access to, he had to check it out.

During the night, Luca had snuck into the village elders private library, which was dedicated to having a full library of a copy of every book the village has ever owned. Luca disarmed the golems, with the knowledge he gained from studying artisan journals, and picked lock after lock to get in. In a case, the book was sealed. Luca picked that lock as well, and opened the book, only then realizing that he couldn’t read a single word. Frantically looking through the book, one of the elders caught him.

In the middle of the night, the elders started to shout, and brought the guilty Luca out of the elders private library. With many of the villagers waking up to the shouting, many of them filter out of their homes and see Luca being comprehended. He was then cast out of the village. With all the trouble that boy had caused in the past, and then sneaking into the elders private library, that was the last straw. He was thrown into a holding cell, and then next time the traders came to town, the elders told them to take Luca and drop him off somewhere far from the village, and that he didn’t care what happened to him.

Luca, barely old enough to be considered an adult, tried bargaining with the traders to let him go. He was scared, hadn’t seen his parents for weeks, and was just given to the traders to be rid of. They essentially said they didn’t have to listen to Luca since they had all they needed from the village, and they gave them extra product to take him and get rid of him.

Luca let the knowledge of the weird book the elders kept hidden to the traders, and they told Luca if they got the book for them, they wouldn’t kill him. So the traders made their way back into the village to let Luca get the book for them. Although it was harder from the first time, the elders put more security on the library since Luca last saw it, he still quietly snuck in, snatched the book, and ran. He got back to the traders and didn’t get killed,, woo-

The traders made a mental note that Luca was a very useful tool, told him that they’d keep him around and feed him in exchange for him stealing things for them. Luca thought nothing of it. He had eventually created a bond with these traders, they traveled together for awhile and they had become a team,, of sorts.

He went on multiple missions to steal things for the traders, it was going well. He wasn’t getting caught, he was being fed and he wasn’t getting killed, so he was fine-

During their time together, like all travelers end up encountering, they were approached on the road by strangers. Three masked individuals approached the traders' vehicles. They had demanded that the traders stop and allow them to look through what they were transporting.

The traders refused. What happened after that, had left Luca stunned in fear, but all in the same mind, he began to run questions through his head. These strangers performed strange abilities that Luca had never seen before, with every second a new ability had presented itself making Luca realize that these people weren’t meant to be messed with. He was scared. They killed the traders, all of them. When they eventually made it to the vehicle that held Luca in the back, they saw Luca holding the book he stole tightly.

Something shiny on the stranger’s fingers caught Luca’s attention. In mere seconds before one of the strangers took hold of the book and began to tug, Luca gained notice of a ring on their finger. It was small, but it had an inscribed unknown symbol; 3 interlocking circles in the confines of a broken seal.

Having the book being ripped from Luca’s hands caused him to fall forwards onto the ground. With a scoff, the book was thrown onto the floor in front of Luca. The person who took the book from Luca turned around and motioned towards him, “Leave him be.”

They took a mere 3 cases from the wreck. Why did they kill the traders? Luca still doesn’t know.

Everyone who Luca was traveling with was dead, their animals ran off, and Luca had no idea where he was. He took the time to gather the traders and lay them upon the side of the road, covering them with the robes they were wearing.

With what Luca could gather, that grabbed what they could fit and shoved it into a backpack. Some rations, a weapon or two, clothes, gold, his book, just anything he thought might be useful. Where was he going to go? What was his plan? They didn’t know. And god they were terrified.
