Violet wasn’t really one for nature walks, but couldn’t really say no to Amanita (especially after dragging her to the concert last week…), so she agreed to go clover hunting with her. At least she already had the day off, and didn’t really have any major plans. She tied her boots and headed out, hoping for the best. Locking her door behind her, she set off on the forest path to the clearing where they planned to meet a few days prior. How did she even get dragged into this again? It kind of happened right after the concert, when Amanita knew she’d feel guilty if she said no. Sigh. At least it meant she wouldn’t be bored. She swatted branches away, trying to avoid any mishaps with bugs, until finally pushing the final branch to the side, spotting a small milqilin in the clearing bent over with her back to her. Violet slowly snuck up, poking her shoulder. The girl stood up, startled, and turned ready to fight. She saw who it was and lowered her fists, with a look of joy in her eyes. “Hey Vi!! I’m so happy you came,” Amanita said, her eyes twinkling with plans. “It’s the best day to find a clover, so postponing wasn’t really an option and trust me, you don’t want to miss this!” The girl bent over, surveying the area, and quickly stooping down to pluck a single plant. Holding it to Violet, she pointed out all four leaves shimmering in the sunlight. “There! That’s what we’re here for!” She exclaimed, happy to have found the luck of fortune. She tucked it into a small pouch, seemingly already filled. Violet couldn’t help but ask herself- why were they here again? What purpose did these superstitious stalks have? Why did she need so gosh darn many?? Her thoughts were interrupted by the other- “Hey! Don’t just stand there- start looking!” said the other, as she bent back over on the hunt. Violet stepped into the clearing, trying not to step on any clovers. If they were good luck, it must be bad luck to step on them! She searched for hours and hours, until the sun slowly started to set. As twilight approached, Violet was still fruitless in her search, while Amanita was on bag three. Violet approached the other, nervous of what she may say. “Hey Ammy… I didn’t find any. I’m so sorry, I genuinely couldn’t and they all just blend in and I wanted to help so bad a-“ she was cut off by Amanita putting a finger to her lips. “Oh shush silly! It’s not a big deal- genuinely, it’s not. This was kind of just an excuse to get you out of the house, and besides, I can’t really fault you. Let me show you something I found out”. She reached down and gently held a seemingly normal clover, still attached to the ground. She closed her eyes, her face serene, her body relaxed, as a fourth leaf popped out of the clover. Oh my god, Violet thought. She cheated this entire time! Amanita plucked the clover, presenting it to Violet. “See, I kind of… figured out a little trick I can do. I know you have some minor power over the dark, and Evie has some power over baking, so I figured I must have one! But this is it, seemingly, just able to sprout another leaf on a clover. At least it’s kind of cool, right?” She grinned, looking at Violet, content in her false victory. “Yknow Am, that is pretty cool” Violet said, as she pushed darkness away from them. They gathered their belongings, and slowly exited the meadow, bags full of luck in hand.
