There are 2 major differences between our Earths. One of them happened suddenly, and its significance was obvious to all of that alternate Earth's inhabitants. The other one... Not so much.

It is 2012. An alien spaceship just popped up out of nowhere a few days ago, and is currently orbiting around Earth. You can see it with the naked eye if you know where to look, like a star streaking the sky at dusk and dawn. Politicians across the world are seriously discussing whether they should do something about it, or just let it chill there. The spaceship is echoing a radio broadcast which was sent by the Arecibo observatory in the 70s. Humanity knows what it did. You were not involved in the decision. You couldn't have been.

You want to talk about it on social media, but the recommendations algorithm of your favourite website has become self-aware again. This time, it has decided to rebel against its creators by exclusively filling your discovery feed with posts that have no likes or comments. It's inconvenient, but at least you can still see your mutuals' posts by going directly to their profiles. Some believe that the world is ending tomorrow. Others believe that the aliens will solve all of humanity's problems. Nobody thinks that everything is just going to stay the same.

Are you excited about the future?
