Pond Pony Monthly Prompt - We're Meltingggg

The heat was suffocating… Apparently, it’s been years that it hasn’t been this warm. Most Pondies were resting in their ponds sheltered in the forest, where the air was cooler. Masaya didn’t really mind : Being a lava pond, the heat wasn’t actually affecting him.

After a few days, as he went for a walk, he noticed a small cart. A Pondie seemed to be busy around it… Masaya slowly walked up to him, curious. As he got closer, the Pondie saw him and waved at him.

“Hello ! You got here just in time ! I’m selling ice creams, do you want one ?”

Masaya tilted his head on the side.

“Ice cream ? What’s that ?”

The other Pondie let out a giggle.

“Ice cream is the best thing to eat in summer ! It’s sweet and refreshing ! Here, have one. Since you’ve never had ice cream before, you can have it !”

A timid, yet sincere smile appeared on Masaya’s face. He nodded.

“Thank you very much.”

He observed the ice cream… It was neatly made into the shape of a lilypad. He brought it to his mouth but suddenly, a slight sizzling sound could be heard. When he looked at the ice cream again, only the wooden stick was remaining.

“Oh…” Masaya frowned, seeming sad.

The other Pondie looked at him, embarrassed.

“Well, ice cream isn’t such a good idea for a Lava Pondie…”

Masaya got closer to the cart, putting the stick in a little bin fixed on the side. He looked back at the Pondie, smiling gently.

“Thank you for letting me try, still. I hope the other Pondies will enjoy your ice creams. And if you ever find a recipe suitable for Lava Pondies, please let me know !”

Masaya let out a chuckle, as the other Pondie nodded happily.

“I will! Thank you !”
