Dream Mist

Leyline tilted his head. "So this is an anchor," he said, peering at the mysterious object with the unique property of defying textual description. "And we have to put it on a dream bridge?"

"It looks nice," said City Lights. Xe picked up the anchor in xyr mouth and looked around. "Now let's go drop it in the river."

"No," Leyline said when City Lights started walking towards a nearby river. "It's a dream river."

"Oh!" City's eyes twinkled along with the starry lights hovering around them. "I know how to get there!"

Xe flopped on xyr side and immediately started snoring. Leyline poked xem, but xe was fast asleep.

"Okay," he said. "You do you, I guess."

Leyline levitated the anchor and used the powers his chandelure heritage gave him to float into the air. He knew the way to the starmist river already, so he headed in that direction.

The river was slow and deep. Leyline kept a good distance above it and looked for a spot to drop the anchor. Huh, he thought. It looked like all the anchors were already placed?

"Hey, Leyline!"

Leyline yelped. "City Lights?!"

City bounded through the river, stardust streaming from xyr fur. "I got here!" xe said proudly. "Huh, you have the anchor?"

"How are you here?" Leyline said in alarm. "You're asleep!"

"Duh, this is a dream river." City tilted xyr head, looking up with wide eyes. "How are you here while awake?"

Leyline shook his head. "Maybe my ghost powers helped? Let's just find a place to put this anchor and go home."

"Oh, we don't need to. The quest was already completed."

"What?"

City Lights let out an amused purr. "I'm just having fun," xe said. "Do you want to join me?"

Leyline looked at the anchor, looked at City, and shrugged. "Sure."

The two trailed their paws in the river and watched the light dance around them. Leyline used his telekinesis to manipulate the starmist, to City's delight, and the two created spectacular shows of color and light in the sky.

Eventually, City Lights woke up, and Leyline returned to the waking world with xem, keeping the anchor as a reminder.
