BOOM

"Elly! What did you--oh gods, are you alright??" The elderly man rushed towards his granddaughter, who was entirely covered in black smoke, stumbling out of her room, her already short hair smouldering, as if it was going to catch fire any second now.  "Yeah, yeah uhh it just.. Didn't quite go the way I expected.." But the girl didn't quite look fine, and stumbled, almost falling. Her grandfather caught her on time.

"Elly, what did you do again?..'' The old man gently carried her to the sofa and laid her there, leaving only briefly to get a bowl of water and some tissues to clean her up a little. Elly began,
"Yeah, you know how you said mixing saffronroot and yellowquill was a tricky business? Well.."
"Oh no you didn't."
"Yeah, I did. But I was almost there! I swear, I only need to perfect the proportion of the base liquid, it was already fluffing up a little, and-" Elly was already up on her elbows, eyes shining with excitement behind her thick glasses. Her grandfather gently pushed her back down.
"Now now, my little Tusc-Turinthi. You've had a bad shock, try and rest a little before you blow up something else." He flashed her a grin. Ellyjobell did not exactly listen. She propped herself up on her elbow again immediately.
"Tusc-Turinthi? Oh I love that name! Thank you!'' She pushed herself up and wrapped her arms around her grandfather's neck, almost knocking him over in the process. The elder patted Elly on the back, eyes twinkling behind his thinner glasses.
"I'm glad you like it. Now, promise me you'll rest, while I clean up your room."
"Oh alright. But I'll be back at it as soon as you'll let me!'' The man couldn't resist a small laugh as he stood to leave.
"I don't doubt that for a second, my little exploding princess."
