There were few planets in the outermost solar systems suitable for kindergarten settlements conquered by the Great Diamond Authority. The only one that had potential was very, VERY remote. But, it was perfect! Plans were made to transform the planet into a launching point for further conquests and settlements, expanding the Authorities' reach beyond charted space! Even with their lightspeed warp technology though, it would take at least a century for the initial colonizing ship to reach the planet. Regardless, colonization was scheduled. For the next hundred years, the new planet was pushed to the back of everyone's attention.

Native life on the planet was still budding. Unfortunately for the locals, that meant resistance to the gems' arrival was quashed with ease, and the planet was commandeered. As instructed, the settlers began expansion. Even after futher exploration, this new colony was still the only habitable planet. New arrivals from homeworld were few and far between due to the incredible commute, and colonization was slow. Slower than the original estimate had projected, evidently, and it began to wear on the Diamonds' patience. New instructions were issued to prioritize the kindergartens' outputs; local gem production deemed now a more practical means of establishing the launch point.

With the increased gem production on the colony, progress increased exponentially. It wasn't long before the entire planet was colonized. A few pioneers even set out to colonize nearby systems. This new planet had become a thriving hub for gemkind.

Except, the planet was no longer thriving.

Overuse of the kindergartens was always bound to take its toll on a planet. It was starting to show. The planet was completely dead. All life had been drained, leaving the hollow rock orbiting a sun. Unbeknownst to its inhabitants, the dead planet had begun to crumble from the inside out. The planet's own collapse, combined with the collapse of gem tech fusion chamber resulted in a massive implosion, a black hole, that consumed the entire solar system and surrounding planets. The diamonds considered the colonization a failure and withdrew from the sector.

What they didn't know was that the immense pressure from the wormhole combined with the pressurized material and residual gem goo from the kindergartens all compressed into a single diamond. Nor that the compacted carbon in its exact center had punctured a hole in time and space- creating a wormhole.

One final wave of pressure exploded from the event's epicenter, expelling the gem at an incredible speed through space- new space! This was not the same galaxy the explosion had started in. By some miracle of not colliding with a single asteroid or chunk of debris the newly formed gem was flung. It rode in the orbit of neighboring star systems and slingshot to the next. Two whole galaxies away it travelled. The gravitational pull of the second galaxy's solar system was unusually strong, though, and rather than flinging it out, drew it further in. The haphazard orbit of this comparitively tiny jewel eventually brought it plummeting through the atmosphere of the nearest planet.

It was lucky the gem was so sharp edged, and that diamonds were the hardest rock on the planet. For rather than shattering on impact, the projectile peirced the crust of the planet like a bullet. There beneath the soil it lay dormant. Decades passed, allowing the flourishing ecosystem of this place time to heal over the blemish it's entry had marked. The land shifted and eroded, bloomed and faded in an endless cycle of life. Finally, a planetary tremor cracked open the land encasing the diamond like an egg, and it tumbled softly to the bottom of a newly formed canyon.

Life, of course, finds a way to exist in all states, and it wasn't long before an owl-like avian species settled in the canyon, roosting in the rocks and burrowing into the cliffsides. They were rather attracted to shiny things it would seem, for the first bird to notice the shining, gleaming stone  at the bottom of the gorge quickly dove to scoop it up.

It was midair, secured in the bird's talons when the diamond finally chose to awaken. Squawking in protest and reluctant to give up it's prize, the bird waited until the very last minute to release it. Then and only then did the stone plummet. Radiant displays of light emanated from it's core, a bright mass glowing and twinkling around it.

Rather abruptly, from it Brown Owl Diamond formed.
