Eevee prompt adopt tryout

Accepting a commission from a pawn shop is fun they said, retrieving a cursed object from haunted ruins is easy they said. Well, sure, it’s all fun and games until said object decides it likes you.

It should have been just another normal day for them: Go into the creepy looking structure, retrieve the item requested - an ancient crystalized totem of raw ghost type energy (whatever that meant) - get out of there before any ancient security system is triggered, return to the pawn shop, and bam, profit.
Stood at the overgrown entrance to a sunken ancient temple, the eevee peered down at the info in their paws, having only a map and a short description of the object to go by, and sighed, knowing that this task would not be an easy one. Ancient ruins like this could have all sorts of treasures contained within, how were they supposed to know what the correct item was?

Perhaps, the goal was just to search for the item that looked the shiniest and most important.

As soon as they set one foot in the darkness, the torches lining the worn stone walls all lit at once, flames the color of a litwick’s casting flickering light down the entire pathway into the depths as if to light their way.

That’s peculiar, it never said anything about this place still containing traces of pokemon energy. But what luck, it seemed this place was making things easy for them.

Or so they initially thought, but upon observing the ruins as they made their way down the path that the torches cast for them, they could see ancient carvings illuminated in the light that were previously hidden in the dark. These ancient carvings… First there was a figure that seemed to resemble an eevee, then between a bunch of writing they were unable to understand, there was an image of a crystal object with the appearance of a skull - was this the item they were seeking? The carvings that followed depicted drawings of pokemon they’d never seen before. Were they.. Eevee evolutions? Impossible, there were no eevee evolutions like this.

They finally emerged into an open cavern and the torches ahead flared up to reveal a room that was almost entirely empty - even void of the strange carvings on the walls that they had seen earlier - save for one thing in the very center. 

Ah, there it is. Placed upon a pedestal, like any true treasure. A crystalized skull that seemed to glow with a pale bluish-purple hue. They inspected the area to ensure that there were no tripwires or mechanisms before deciding to approach the object. It almost seemed to glow brighter as they approached.. Peculiar.

Carefully, they reached out to retrieve the treasure. It felt heavy in their paws and emitted a bright glow as they held it.

.. A bright glow which seemed to only continue to increase as they held it until cracks began to appear on the crystalized surface and it burst into a bright blue light in their paws with a shattering sound. 

“Hey!” They exclaimed to no one in particular but whatever fool decided to input a self destruction method on a valuable relic over 3,000 years ago. “What gives?”

However, when the light had faded and they could finally blink the brightness from their eyes, they were shocked to find that in place of the item they previously held, they were greeted with only dust held in the palms of unfamiliar paws. They let the dust fall from their paws to the floor - it was useless now anyways - as they thoroughly inspected their new form. 

Did I.. Evolve just now? What am I?

It felt familiar, almost. Upon this realization, they quickly returned to the carvings on the walls of the passageway to confirm their suspicion. They were indeed correct, the unfamiliar pokemon depicted in the images resembled their current appearance. Whatever this pokemon they had become was, it was right there in the ancient recordings. An ancient eevee evolution? Could that crystal relic rumored to be “cursed” actually be an ancient evolution stone? It seemed like the most plausible conclusion to them, they figured, as they admired their new appearance and the abilities that came with it.

Oh dear, I will have to return empty handed. How will I explain myself now?

"Hey, so the object exploded into dust when I touched and now I'm a super cool ghost evolution!" 

..No, that will never go well.

"Here's the cursed object you asked for! Sorry, it was actually just dust."

Perfect.

.. Quite as could be expected, they are now on the run from a particularly angry pawn shop owner and multiple archaeologists who now believe that they tampered with an extremely valuable ancient item on purpose to take its power for themselves despite the amount of times they have explained that it chose them and they didn't do anything. They were a perfectly reliable treasure hunter before this, thank you very much.

But was it worth it? Absolutely. A ghost type eevee evolution was unheard of, but somehow they’d been chosen by some ancient power and they weren’t about to let it down.
