Matthew was… uncertain about the maze before him to say the least, not unwilling necessarily but definitely not jumping with joy. Sure he'd been interested in them after Cobblestone had shown him some in a magazine and explained about them. But actually entering one with their… skills… felt like setting them up for failure. …What skill level was this one again?

"Are you ready?!" Cobblestone's excitement was… charming, if a little intimidating and Matthew smiled a bit at the other as the two started into the maze. Where, between Matthew's memory and Cobblestone's completely nonexistent sense of direction, they were bound to spend the next several hours. Will they send people to look for us if we take too long? … Hopefully not…

Cobblestone took the lead keeping his pace slowed just enough so that Matthew wouldn't fall behind with his much slower one. His pace almost came off as bored but he knew better, knew that Matthew just preferred to take it slower and take in his surroundings more. Besides he knew the other had been curious about corn mazes for a bit now when he heard about the concept.

"What do you think will be in the center of the maze? Or do you think this is one of those where we're looking for the exit? I mean I guess we'll have to look for the exit either way…"" His tone was bright and his volume raised a bit in order to cover the five or so paces between the two.

"I'm not sure" he paused, head tilted slightly as he thought "I hope this is one of the ones with a scarecrow in the middle"

"Ooh! That would be fun" Cobblestone swerved on his heels to walk backwards so he could look at the other. "I wonder if it'll be a cute scarecrow or a scary scarecrow?" The Starnie delighted in watching the other's eyebrows scrunch up in confusion.

"Scary… they're scarecrows so scary" his words were spoken slowly as if he wasn't sure that Cobblestone had actually asked the question. While flawed he couldn't help but grin at the other's logic, especially knowing that Matthew's statement made perfect sense in his mind.

"Well hopefully it's not too scary or I might just leap into your arms" Cobblestone swayed dramatically as he spoke as though he might fall over and Matthew started to laugh. Both of them knew fully that if that did in fact happen they'd both end up on the ground.

Much to Matthew's amusement his prediction about getting lost very much came true. By the two hour mark the two were thoroughly and absolutely lost. The rows and rows of starchy vegetables all looked the same and Matthew was pretty sure they'd run into more dead ends then the maze had but honestly who knows at this point. After making a left which once again led into a dead end he looked at the other expectedly.

"Alright, fine we're lost." Cobblestone pouted the whole time he spoke, the adminion a couple hours overdue. Retracing their steps back to the last turn the two took the right path this time only like twenty percent sure that it wouldn't immediately lead to another dead end.

The two's pace was quite different by now, Cobblestone tired of the repetitiveness of the maze and lack of progress had slowed to the point of nearly dragging his feet. Matthew meanwhile was a few places ahead of the other, energy in his steps. Despite his initial hesitation about them getting lost the experience was actually quite fun, and Cobblestone's pouting was pretty funny on top of it. Cobblestone grinned when he noticed how much fun Matthew was having, absolutely delighted by the other's happiness.

It took the pair nearly three and a half hours before a turn finally brought them to the exit. Not just a plain exit either, instead right there in the middle of the path at the edges of corn stood a scarecrow. Matthew made a sort of chirp-like sound that would've concerned his partner if he didn't then immediately rush forward, winged ears flapping in delight. The scarecrow was perched on a stick and much taller than it looked. As Matthew got closer to it he realized that his head was barely level with its stomach.

After getting up to it he turned to look at Cobblestone, eyes wide and bright with joy, mouth spread into a big grin. Cobblestone couldn't remember the last time he'd seen the other so happy,

"They have a scarecrow!"
