Bored Weyrlings

Part 1

K’sei, rider of gold Auranth

Y’ten, rider of bronze Intanith

It was a beautiful day in the weyr. Regardless of this fact. K’sei was bored out of her skull. All the various bronzeriders were following her around. It was, quite frankly, beginning to irritate her. Just because she was a queen rider was no reason to follow her around like stray canines! Auranth, her gold, was finiding it all very amusing. She was lounging beside the lake, talking with some of her fellow weyrlings, most of them males. She didn’t like greens, and they stayed far away from her, which suited her just fine.

She’d already walked around the whole weyr, only to arrive backa t the lake where she’d started. Her four firelizards, gold Flute, bronze harper, blue Teir, and green Leaf were lounging on Auranth’s back as she she swam in the lake. Flute immediately launched herself into the air upon spotting her and landed daintily on her shoulder. She stoked the queen’s neck as she wandered, glaring at any men who so much as made a move to join her.

{If your going to be so grumpy, why don’t you go to that cove you found last time you went for a swim?} Auranth suggested, paddling lazily towards shore.

{I might just do that, then. Thank you for reminding me. This’ll keep those pesky bronzeriders away from me.}

Auranth sighed and shook her head. {You do realize that I will fly someday and you will have a weyrmate whether you like it or not!}

{Just because your mate will have a rider doesn’t mean that I have to accept him as my weyrmate for a year. I refuse!}

{You are far too stubborn for your own good.}

K’sei entered her little cove and collapsed into the sand with a  sigh of relief. “Finally! Some peace and quiet all to myself with noone around to disturb me.”

{Uh…rider mine?} Auranth interrupted. {I wouldn’t speak so soon. Intanith and Ulrith’s riders are there, too.}

{Intanith and Ulrith? What colors are they?}

{Bronzes, both of them. I wouldn’t worry, they’re a bit farther down than you are.}

K’sei’s hand clutched around a handful of sand. “Great. Just wonderful.”

“Hello there!” a cheerful voice greted her. “I didn’t know I had company. You’re K’sei, right? That’s what Intanith tells me anyways.”

“Yes. You are..?”

“Y’ten.” He said happily, extending his hand in a gesture of friendship. When she didn’t take it, he took it back, looking slightly disappointed. “Anyways, I was wondering if you’d like to walk with me. J’meg’s around here somewhere and I have far to much food in my basket, and I was wondering if the three of us could share.”

“No, thank you, but I’d rather be alone right now. You see, I’m rather tired of being around bronze riders right now.”

“I don’t doubt it, being the only queenrider our age. At least you only have bronzeriders tro worry about. I have all the green and blue riders fawning over me.” He shuddered. “It’s terrifying, being hit on by other men.”

K’sei hid a giggle.

“Anyways, I’ll let you get back to your solitude. Give my regards to Auranth.”

{He sems nice enough. Intanith is also quite nice.}

{Oh, do be quiet, Aury. I’d like to be left alone right now. However, I\if you do want to stick around, don’t talk to me about bronzes. Please?}

She sighed and settled down into the sand. {I promise.}

To be continued by whoever.
