The Dark: Avalon in Ruins

"I'm here on Avalon, and scans show a great presence of magic in the air. However, there are also very clear technological advancements in this realm, which says something about its denizens," Poggers announces into his scanner, processing its readings while recording the observations, "Side note to self, remember to organize these files, maybe. I mean, as long as I know what and where everything is, I guess it doesn't really matter?"

The alien had heard about a new realm opening its portals in Lyth and jumped at the chance to visit. It isn't every day that something like this happens, where a new civilization would just suddenly appear out of nowhere and immediately accept visitors. Which, honestly, should've made him a little bit suspicious, but his excitement overrides that more often than not. Generally, however, the Onini finds that the realms of this universe are quite safe, already made hospitable by the Lythians that reside in them. It's not like he's here to terraform the lands or rebuild civilization from scratch, so no need to be that cautious or prepared!

"Avalon has a white-yellow sun, blue skies, and green grass, color patterns that it shares with a lot of other realms," Poggers hums, tapping at the screen to take some photos, "Its waters are the same blue as the sky, and divide the lands into four distinct sections. The one I'm on currently is very cute, with its light green meadows and soft grasses."

He stops to rub his eyes, attempting to refocus his vision. While the grass was green, it was a much lighter green than he was used to, which caused the sun's rays to reflect into his eyes. I'll need to grab some eyewear from the ship before coming down again, he squints, blinking rapidly to clear his eyes, wait, what's that? As his eyesight returns, the alien notices an odd pool that he's pretty sure wasn't there before. Curiously, he approaches it, scanner in hand, but doesn't pick up any readings that it aren't already registered. So he sets the device down and sits down by the edge of the pool, scooting closer to get a good look. It's filled with a dark, purple liquid, rich in color with small particles of light scattered throughout. It seems to be someone viscous, a fact Poggers confirms when he dips a blade of grass in, and it emerges gooey and heavy. He then allows a small droplet to fall on his finger, and it does nothing but slowly slide off his skin. No reaction to biological matter, so probably not dangerous. Wonder if I can take a sample back for analysis...

Just as he's pondering what other immediate experiments he can perform, the Onini notices the lights in the pool flickering. His eyes immediately focus on the area, and he quickly notices that no, they're not so much as flickering, as they are being temporarily blocked by an object moving over them. No, again, not an object, but a... Lythian? Fabremon don't love liquids, because they weigh down their fabric bodies, and it's too large to be a Faerilee or Veela, he thinks, mind rapidly going through the native species, I've never seen a scaled Galibyte, but maybe...? It swims right up to the edge of the pool, before hoisting itself up, onto the shore. It's still covered in the purple substance, which sloughs off slowly in large globules. The figure lifts its head, and Poggers meets its gaze with his own. At that moment, however, its body seems to warp, losing its scales and streamlined form. The alien gasps, as he finds himself staring at an Onini, shaped just like him but in varying shades of black. And without any warning, it lunges—

Poggers bolts upright into a sitting position and swivels his head around, immediately relieved that he's still breathing, but not recognizing his surroundings. He doesn't think he blacked out, but well, there's nothing around him but darkness. Darkness and what appear to be... stars? Oh, and he's floating. How curious! He flips onto his belly, then paddles his arms and kicks his legs. This causes him to move slowly forward, as if swimming through some sort of viscous liquid. Thick water, stars all around... wait, am I in the pool?

Before he can continue that train of thought, he notices an object come into view. As he approaches, he recognizes it to be the realm of Avalon, but the colors are all wrong, backwards, and inverted, no yellow-white sun, blue skies, or green grass. It's also miniature, so small that he could engulf it with both hands, squeeze, and—

"Do it," a voice croons, jolting Poggers out of his reverie, "Destroy it. Commit violence. Ruin this realm, so that it's naught but pieces. It's in you, it's who you are, you want this."

And he does, the Onini realizes, he does want to crush Avalon. Snuff out all the life on the realm. Watch it fracture into tiny pieces. Render it irreparable.

And it isn't long before he realizes that he'd done just that, because before him lays Avalon.

In ruins.

Good.
