Appearance

Dren doesn't look human by any stretch of the imagination. While he has a thick, muscular humanoid body structure with plenty of differences. His skin town is a dark purple-brown, with darker fur that runs from his feet up to mid-thigh, and from his hands up to his shoulders. His hands are significantly larger than a humans, with four fingers ending in light eggshell blue claws, which are matched by two short pointed horns emerging from his temples. Aside from the fur on his arms and legs, he has a large ruff of brown fur around his neck, and messy brown hair on his head. Rather than humanoid ears, he has prominent furred ears that stick out horizontally from the side of his head. Unusually, the fur on these is purple, rather than a matching brown.

Dren has purple hackles that run down his spine, continuing down his long, relatively thick tapering tail. The tail ends in a puff of purple fur with a texture similar to the fur on his back. While the majority of Dren's body is large and well muscled, his feet and the bottom of his digitigrade legs are relatively slim, ending in small paws. As a result, Dren has a very precise sense of balance, and his body posture is similar to someone perpetually on tiptoes.

Dren's eyes have black scelera and yellow irises with slit pupils. His teeth are more sharp on average than a humans own, with the inside of his mouth matching the color of his horns and claws.

Dren has a number of scars, including a trio of slashes across the center of his chest, and a vertical line across his left eye. His clothes tend to not fit him very well, due to his odd body shape. Dren is six feet tall.

Personality

Dren is a man with significant trauma in his past, and while he tries not to show it, the damage is clearly there. He tends to be more quiet and withdrawn than most would expect from a man of his stature and build, speaking softly and less than others might. He tends to favor non-verbal communication where he can, nodding and shaking his head rather than speaking.

Hearing his story, many would expect Dren to be filled with fire, eager to right the wrong against him, but whatever fire existed in him has long since gone out. He's a listless man with minimal interest in digging up old cases. He thinks that Manta Carlos is wrong--he'd describe it as 'corrupt' if asked--but he doesn't want to be the one to fight it. He doesn't think it would help, and generally thinks poorly of himself.

His interpersonal skills are shoddy after years with minimal use, but he strongly desires physical affection where he can get it. He dislikes being touched unexpectedly.

Passive Abilities

Physical Capabilities: Venomaws are hunters, and their biology reflects that. Their sense of hearing and eyesight is tantamount to a nocturnal earthly predator, and they can hit 35 mph at top speed. Their teeth and claws are considerably stronger than that of a human, and they use their tail to help with their balance, being fairly light on their feet. In terms of strength, Dren can lift a ton with exertion, and is durable enough to shrug off an average human punch without any damage.

Venom: Dren's venom is a particularly potent tool, and makes him especially effective hunter. The venom causes a paralysis effect, and in large doses can even stop the victim's heart. A quick bite isn't going to do much but cause the bitten body part to stop responding properly. A prolonged bite--one where he can really sink his teeth in--is where the trouble begins. Depending on the size of the creature being bitten and their general resistance to venoms, Dren needs around thirty seconds of a strong bite to start causing permanent damage to the target's body. Dren's saliva also carries some amount of the venom, and getting licked by him causes a narcotic tingle.

Immunity: Dren is immune to both his own venom, as well as other venoms, toxins, and poisons.

Weaknesses

Eyesight: Dren is primarily a night hunter, and has issues with seeing in the daylight. For his eyes function properly, he'd need very heavy sunglasses. Otherwise, things are generally blurry.

Diet: Dren is primarily a carnivore, and his body has difficulty digesting grains, dairy, and sweets in significant doses.

Biography

  • Dren was born in a small community of Venomaws in northern Europe. While not formally aware of the veil, they still understood the need for secrecy, hiding themselves from human contact in the farthest depths of the forest.
  • Dren was orphaned at a young age when his parents were killed, and as several more members of the community began to turn up dead, the community became convinced that someone was hunting them, and that they'd been discovered.
  • They relocated several times, but were constantly stalked by the unseen hunter, leading to an intense culture of fear.
  • The community was contacted by scouts when Dren was eighteen, and the offer to relocate the entire small community to the island was made. With their numbers dwindling and their ability to remain hidden increasingly in question, the community accepted the relocation, and were relocated to a small area on Manta Carlos itself.
  • However, part of the relocation revealed a horrifying truth. When asked if they had anything to confess, one member of the community confessed to killing not just Dren's parents, but several other member's of the community. The nature of the pardon meant he faced no consequences for it, and while he was ostracized from the community for it, Dren was furious.
  • Less than a week after arriving on the island, Dren butchered his parent's killer, taking revenge in an exceptionally violent manner.
  • Dren was arrested, and confessed, a mountain of evidence making it exceedingly obvious what had happened. Showing zero remorse, he was eventually sent to the Islets to serve out his sentence.
  • Seven years later, Dren is a very different person than he was when he went in. He still shows no remorse for what he did, but he's been freed with minimal probation and is considered unlikely to reoffend despite the viciousness of his crime.
