Language - Floran Prime

Part of Protectorate Alliance (reluctant)

(Of note: It is Protectorate regulation to choose a language of a species planet to denote as Common-typically the mostly commonly spoken)

Florans are plant-based beings, but descend specifically from succulent class plants due to their ability to retain water over long periods of time.
Sap serves as their blood and helps keep the body hydrated while delivering nutrients. Sap is also used in other forms throughout the body, albeit in watered down forms such as saliva, mucus, and lubricant.

Specific genders as a concept are mostly foreign to Florans due to lacking binary reproductive systems similar to humans (although humans are not strictly binary reproductively either). Pronouns are more so denoted by personality, with domineering personalities vs more submissive ones using different forms of I and you.

Florans are reproductively intersex, with a retractable stamen delivering liquid pollen and an internal cavity structurally equivalent to a vagina containing unfertilized seeds. Once these seeds are fertilized, after a short incubation period they are laid and then planted in specific conditions to grow a new baby Floran pod. Fertilized Floran seeds can be kept preserved and still remain viable as long as conditions remain stable. Adult Florans have a peak reproductive period in warm and humid weather that encourages pheromone production and the urge to reproduce, called being “in bloom”.

Floran foliage growth located on the head is largely manipulable via careful pruning and specialized nutritional intake, with healthier Florans flowering in warmer and humid weather. Flower shape and color is hereditary and cannot be changed. These head flowers are purely aesthetic to indicate general health, and are infertile, containing no seeds or pollen. While Florans do not catch typical animal-type diseases such as influenza or the common cold, they can catch plant-type ones like mildew, but especially parasites such as mites if unhygienic in nature.
