Mage quests for Cereus range a large timeline and don't necessarily happen in chronological order. Some will be from his time in school with Eris which happened years ago in-setting, and some take place years and years after. Yes he's still in school. No he doesnt want to talk about it. >:(

From the Heart

“Alright, I think that’s enough for the day.” The gentle voice beckoned him out of whatever state he was in and back into focus. He lay on his side on the couch. Light of a sunset streamed through the windows, his mind prodded him, something about that was unusual but he couldn’t recall why. It was a feeling he had gotten very used to over the last few months. What else? The quiet simmer of a cauldron bubbling. On the table, across the room, there was a whole slew of potion supplies. Several mini cauldrons bubbled in much the same way. A busy day, he supposed.

“Did I do well?” Cereus grinned up at Eris from his position on the couch. She scoffed but he didn’t miss the small smirk playing on the corner of her mouth.

“Only if you consider ‘doing well,’ as ‘sleeping through all my important breakthroughs,’ then yes. You did well. Exceptional even.” The vitriol in her voice was put on. A teasing joke. He was getting better at seeing through that now.

With a huff he shifted back to his feet and passed her, brushing his flank against hers. Another scoff, he could picture her rolling her eyes. “Then for all these discoveries… I believe celebration is in order.”

“Cereus.”

“Permit me to take a woman as fine and genius as yourself down to the cafeteria where you will dine on only the finest of hastily assembled slop.” Cereus bowed deeply in mock eloquence.

“You’re absurd.” Eris turned tail, a quick whip of her magic reducing the cauldrons to a low simmer. Always working, that one. He was only just looking up from his bow when she paused at the door of her lab. “You’re paying. And we aren’t having cafeteria food.”

Cereus bounded towards her, near crashing into her with his joy. “Of course my angel.” A playful growl rumbled in Eris’ throat. “I would take you anywhere.”
