Vengeance - Healing (Aten | Nuju | Sekhmet)

The deed was done – the large, looming owl that had haunted the desert for weeks had been defeated and Ibea heaved a sigh of relief. After the final fight, Akhenaten and Nuju had decided to keep traveling together for a little while and to catch their breath after the intense battle. Slowly they walked next to each other through the desert sand. «I'm really jealous I didn't think about taking one of its feathers with me as well» Nuju spoke. «It looks so pretty how it glows in the night.» She kept staring at the item the other Kumba had put in his mane. «I won't keep it for myself either. Its a gift.» «Oooh for your lover?!» Nuju only seemed to be half joking and half serious. The two hadn't known each other before the fight, they just happened to run into the other one because of Sagitta. The mudchest remained silent for a moment, then sighed. «I don't have a lover. Not yet. But I am waiting for her. I know we will find each other one day.» The storm mane stopped as he kept walking and looked at the hob with confusion and a little bit of pity. «That's...really sad.» She skipped forward and caught up with him again. They were strolling along the top of a tall dune and could survey everything around them, so far they could even see where the sky touched the ground on the horizon. Suddenly, they noticed a lone Saliko walking towards them, but it seemed larger than a kumba. They were too far away and the direction of the wind inconvenient, so they couldn't take in the scent of the newcomer. Akhenaten frowned and stood still, watching the stranger closely, but they didn't seem aggressive. Still, they both knew you could never be too careful. Suddenly the newest arrival raised their head and looked at them. Their face was graced by a beautiful sunmask with light green spots inside, while the rest of the body was a creamy fungi brown. Then, they yelled at them. «I need some help!» In a sudden flash of realization, the ears of the mudchest hob immediately twitched forward attentively, but the jills were still folded back. «Be careful» she whispered. «It could be a trick.» «No...it's...I think this is one of my tribemates. Sekhmet!» He yelled, and the stranger responded. «Aten?» «We gotta go, she's limping» he said to his battle companion. «Wait, Akhenaten–» But he was already sliding down the dune towards the Mayur.

As he reached her, they both bowed politely, no nuzzling or other signs they were close friends. But perhaps that was just the custom in their tribe. As the piebald got closer to them, the stranger sat down to show she meant no threat. «Hi. My name is Sekhmet. I was surprised by the beast and hid until it was gone but I think my leg is bruised. I don't know where to find a healer and it's still a long way to our tribe.» «Do you live in the jungle?» The piebald asked both, surprised to see a Mayur so far out in the middle of the desert, but the other jill shook her head. «No, I live here in the desert too.» The hob grunted. «We need to find some supplies for you, I can't support your weight all the way home.» «Wait», Nuju said. «I think I heard some rumors about a healer putting out items for everyone after the beasts arrived. Perhaps we can find some?» «Yeah, we've heard about that too, but haven't been lucky so far. We could also use some refreshment.» Then suddenly, Sekhmet noticed something in the distance. «Look, there's birds circling something over there!» «Could just be a cadaver.» «Well, no way to know until we check it out.» Nuju stepped forward now, addressing the Mayur. «You're injured it would take you too long to get there and any more strain on your leg might make it worse. Akhenaten, you stay here and I'll check it out.» For a moment the hob was unsure. While the white Kumba seemed to be nice, she could have ulterior motives and steal the supplies for herself. But he also didn't want to leave a stranger with his tribemates. If push comes to shove, they would still find a way to help her get home. «Alright, we'll stay here.» Quickly the jill ran off into the night. A few minutes passed and nothing happened. The two Salikos started to loose more and more confidence, then they noticed the birds in the distance calling out and scatter in all directions. «Seems she got there.» «Yeah. Only question is what she found.» The two looked at each other with worry in their eyes. Akhenaten finally sat down as well and the two waited for what seemed like an eternity. Suddenly the jill reappeared from behind a dune, slid down the side and trotted towards them with something in her mouth. It was three small packets, bound in animal leather. «I hope this is what we were looking for? Smells a little like food, that's what attracted the birds.» She put the bundles down and each of them grabbed one, opened it with their teeth and looked inside. To their excitement they found various useful items inside! «Seems like we got the jackpot!» Nuju was very happy about her find, but Akhenaten was more down to earth. «FINALLY something GOOD happens after all this beasty mess.» «Well, at least we can now stop being a mess ourselves» Sekhmet added and the three proceeded to patch themselves up.
