Chaper 1: Gingerbread House

Growing up in a household of six children, Crypsi never got to experience a lot of holiday traditions that other children did. Not enough room for stockings, too many troublemakers to put up fairy lights. But this year it's different! All of her older siblings have moved out and into the world on their own, leaving poor Crypsi as the only child of the house. What does that mean for her? Enjoy all the festivities!!

Hearing about a gingerbread house competition of sorts, Crypsi instantly signed up, despite not having any idea what a gingerbread house was nor how to build one. How hard can it be anyways? After many hours researching and asking other competitors how they're houses were going, Crypsi thought she had a good grasp on what to do, and after a trip to the store for some ingredients, started working on her piece de resistance.

The first problem came with making the gingerbread. It took a few tries, but after some less than stellar bakes she managed to make some acceptable pieces. Then came the frosting, which again took many attempts to get right. First it was too sweet, then it was too watery. Since when has baking been so difficult?? After many hours, her patience had run dry, and in her frustration she decided 'to hell with this!' and started making her own version of a 'gingerbread' house

Burnt pieces of gingerbread were places haphazardly around the cardboard base, sloppily covered in green frosting. Perhaps they were meant to be trees? Pink jubjubs and small pieces of black licorice made a makeshift path from one side of the base to the house in the center. The 'house' itself being a wonderfully abstract concept. Instead of four walls and a roof of gingerbread, it was a frosting igloo, of sorts. Covered with a dusting of pink sugar, the hardened frosting that sat in the middle was a dense clump of something, pieces of gingerbread, licorice and some other candies poking out everywhere. And right on top was a tiny little flag, pink with a small smiley face on it.

It won't win any awards, but I'm sure her parents are proud of her anyways.
