"I can't believe it," Eris said, tossing the case files down on the desk. "Your alibi actually checks out. I hate to admit it, but I genuinely don't think you did this one."

"That's what I've been sayin', but does anyone listen? Nooo," Lyra bemoaned, "you do a little bit of arson one time and suddenly you're on the hook for every crime anyone ever-"

Eris quirked an eyebrow. "You do realize this room is being recorded, right?"

Lyra abruptly clammed up. "Uh - well - what I was saying is, uh..."

Eris sighed, leaning back in her seat. "Anyway, they're trying to have me use my private investigator skills to dig up some more evidence to pin this on you, so... Got any leads on who might be wanting to get you for this? Anyone who might want to get you on the hook for - what are they accusing you of again, anyway, vandalism? I know it was the Queen's property, but that's not even generally your style." She pinched the bridge of her nose, muttering, "my goodness, if they're gonna falsely accuse you of something, at least make it believable."

Lyra thought on that for a while. "You know," she said, finally coming to a realization, "I DID steal about two thousand tokens' worth of mutation potions from that Dare guy recently."

Eris looked at her in disbelief. "Wh- what reason on earth could you possibly have to do that?"

Lyra looked at her condescendingly. "To sell them back to him at a vastly inflated price, obviously? Why does anyone steal anything?"

Eris felt her soul leave her body. The fact that this room was being recorded had not changed in the minutes since she reminded her of it. "You really are not making this easy on me, you know."

Lyra just smirked. "Yeah, but I know you'll still be able to pull it off."
