Tangerine squinted out at the forest the hatchery was located in, his tail flicking back and forth as his eyes flicked around the dense foliage. Until he was interrupted.

His ears flicked towards the sound of clumsy paws running behind him, and he held back a small smile when he heard a few dragonets voices yell something that sounded like, "BOO." He then felt several dragonets crash into his back.

"Oh wow," Tangerine said in a very monotone voice, "You all scared me."

He turned to face the small dewwings, chuckling when they all began to cheer over the prospect of "scaring" their hatchery guard. One of the dragonets jumped at him, trying to jump onto him, which caused multiple dragonets to try and dog pile him, all excitedly chirping and squealing as he fended them off with a paw.

"Wait- dragonets, you see the spikes on my body? What could happen if you jumped on one?"

The dragonets all paused, and one bravely yelled, "HURT?" Tangerine huffed a laugh, but nodded.

"Yes. Hurt. I do not want to accidentally hurt any of you."

The dragonets all let out little "HMMMMM" noises, their stupid little eyes staring at his spikes. Then another dragonet yelled, "NUTS." Tangerine watched, bemused, as all the dragonets ran away enthusiastically towards the food cave, tripping over their wings and tails in their excitement. He had a feeling that something very odd was about to happen.

And something odd did happen. He soon was laying on the ground, surrounded by little Dewwings, who were lodging soft nuts onto the pointy bits of his spikes. He really hoped nobody walked in on this. He eventually closed his eye, feeling multiple small nuts being lodged over his eye spikes. He was amused, confused, yet content. 'At least this is easier than trying to take down a Beetlewing.'

Once all his spikes had been covered, the dragonets piled onto him, snores beginning to fill the den as the small dragons snuggled up to him. Tangerine badly wanted to move so he could continue guarding the den, but some part of him refused to disturb the dragonets.

Huh. He really had grown soft.
