Chapter 2

Her ToyHouse account will display her current self, with all of her achievements in the story already shared and spoken of in the past tense. In other words, Valent after the happy ending, and before her death. Or, maybe to make the story more interesting and mysterious, I won't reveal too much info about her. Perhaps the page will describe Valent before the story happens.

Later on near the point of Valent's spiritual descent, she becomes the victim of a massive legion of demons who enter her body and begin to take over in a painful sequence of events. These are all of the demons who were exiled by her in the past, coming back to literally haunt her. Individually, these demons are rather puny, but combined, they are a deadly force.

She's on the way to a market with a young boy that she's training to become an exorcist. She was told by the [mysteriously joyous] high priest to chaperone him while he went to the market. The possession is so fast and rapid that she nearly collapses under the unseen weight. Since it's a winter evening, and daylight savings has darkened the skies quite early, no pedestrians are outside to view her distress. An awful burning sensation comes across her entire body, and she finds herself hardly able to think straight. Violent and unholy thoughts flood in and clog her brain, stronger than they've ever been before. She feels the desire to wreak havoc on others, express her inner rage, and expel terrible wrath on another. Whose wrath this was? Not her own.

The boy stared in fear and disbelief. He knew what was happening, but remained frozen, debating on what he could possibly do. Take the Bible from under his shirt and start reciting? Or run away as fast as he can before the terrifying legion targets him too? Valent lifted her arm and gave a stern wave toward him. "Jacob... Get away! You're not trained enough!" She shut her eyes and a guttural snarl came from her mouth. Her body curved, arching her spine before a shred was heard and big black wings sprouted from either side of her back. Jacob whimpered as the woman slowly stood up with heavy, growling breaths. She exhaled puffs of hot steam from both her mouth and nostrils into the winter air. Then two red eyes glared at him and filled Jacob with an indescribable dread. These eyes didn't belong to Valent... they were the eyes of a devil, emitting disgusting hate and violence from merely the blood red color and piercing white pupils. Jacob turns to run, but trips over his own foot and falls. The demon quickly pursues the boy and grips him by the ankle with uncanny force. Its claws dug into his skin with such a rough grip that he knew the demon wanted nothing more than his pain and torment.

Before the demon can sink its teeth into him, its head is grabbed and held in the air by none other than Jethro, the high priest. He begins reciting unusual scripture and the demon, restrained by his single hand, can only screech in resentment. Jacob crawled away and watched from behind, hugging his legs to himself and trembling. Within seconds, the screeching stops and he drops Valent to the ground, putting his scripture away. "Valent, how are you feeling?" Valent was blue and gasping for air, having been choked by possession for several minutes. Jethro took a glance back at Jacob. "You're lucky it didn't get to you. Be happy," he said calmly with a smile. Valent remained panting on the ground for a while.
