Shin's and Jae's mother dies, and the boys find out after returning home from being babysat.

The Start Of An End

"Jae, what happen?" The young and soft voice of the darker skinned warpa asked as he clung to his brother. His markings had just started coming and he was still becoming accustomed to using hands with thumbs, but it was made a bit easier by the young one being a monkey before the growth and receiving their humanoid form.

He gave big eyes as the older lady who took care of them the night before, a look of worry on her face as his brother rubbed his back. He grew up in a broken home as is, he knew something was off as both remained quiet and stared at the ambulances and people in uniform that came and went into their apartment.

"I'll go ask what's going on, you younglings sit here for now." The older warpa placed a hand on Jae's shoulder until he responded with a nod. Staring at the flashing lights for a moment more before holding the much younger warpa in his arms. Jae had many clues of what could have happened, even if Shin did not.

"Big brother..." Tugging on Jae until he looked down, Jae gave a smile and the young Shin a kiss on his forehead, trying to ease the worry between them.

"I don't know, but I think something happened to Binna." Shin only continued to stare more, tugging on Jae again as he just tried to process what would happen if they lost their mom.

"What happens?"

"I don't know, Miss Cho is asking for us..." tugged once more, Jae was getting more frustrated with Shin who kept wanting his attention. Looking down though, he couldn't stay mad at those big and scared eyes. He knew they were both young, but Shin was so much younger and didn't understand as much as he did.

"No, what happens to us?" Going quiet to think this over, Jae didn't have much for answers. He knew they'd have some time until they had to move, as it was still the start of the month, and that if their mother had any funds left he could pull them from her account before he closed them as he knew her passwords and information for that. Afterwards though, he knew they weren't that well off as she was a single mother working to raise two kids she didn't want.

"I don't know, but I'll figure it out." Resting his head on Shin's hair, he just sat and held his sibling close as they waited for the news.

News they didn't receive for a few days, told to return back home with Miss Cho as they investigated and tried to find someone older than Jae to tell. It wasn't news fit for a 12 year old, but it became news for one when it was found that the small family of three was all there was. No fathers listed for the children and no other adults listed as back up care takers for the kids. Harsh news of Binna Jeong's death, but Jae couldn't say he didn't find some happiness knowing their mother was gone from her own doing.
