Shin explores his new 'home' and starts to understand things are changing.

A Small Home

Entering into the door, Shin was set down to take off his shoes while Jae did the same. The entering area was rather small, big enough for the two of them but they were both small framed young boys and not full grown adults. As Jae was fiddling with the door, Shin went in to explore more of their new ‘home’. He paused to see if Jae would stop him, but when he didn’t he continued in to see what was ahead.

The place itself was far from ideal, upkeep not being the best but good enough Jae had felt comfortable getting it. It wasn’t the cheapest, but far from the most expensive of places in the area. There was a lofted bed area, big enough for a bed for the two of them and some clothing storage to be had. There was already a mattress on the floor up there, with their bags scattered in the ‘living room’ area as if they were starting to be unpacked.

Downstairs it was simple, a table with a few chairs for eating or if a desk was needed, some more storage (mostly for Shin’s toys), and the rest of the facilities. A bathroom, a kitchen, a washer under the cooking area, and a small fridge that was squished inside what one could assume was a storage or panty area.

“Careful going upstairs.” Jae called to Shin as he looked up the steps, his big baby eyes looking up into the darkness after.

“What up there?”

“The bed, you can sit and play with your toys as I unpack if you want. I’ll make dinner after.” The periods of Jae just vanishing now made sense to the young Shin, though he was still unsure about it all. They were babies, momma said it all the time in that upset tone he didn’t like. But now the babies didn’t have a momma, so Jae wasn’t a baby? It didn’t make sense to him.

It was far too much for his still growing mind though, sitting down to watch as Jae hung up some clothes, unpacked some dishes for the kitchen, swept up some dust around the new place, and was just about to start dinner when he realized Shin hadn't moved and was just staring at him.

“What is it, Shin? Do you not like our new home?” Jae asked, reaching down to pick up Shin who clung to him as he thought.

“We baby, how can we live here?”

“I got a job, so I can take care of you and I. I guess I’m no longer a baby, but you are.” Making a face, Jae smiled and leaned his head on Shin, closing his eyes for a moment as he let it all set in.

It was what he always wanted, living away from their mother as she didn’t treat either of them very well. Both were detached in a way from the world, Shin less so as he still has his childlike wonder of everything. Shin was quiet though, sometimes oddly so, and didn’t like others touching him.

“It’s alright, we’ll be fine here. You’ll have to stay home alone sometimes though, okay? Can you do that for me?”

“Okay...” Sighing, Jae could sense this was going to take some time for Shin to get used to, but he hoped it would go fast enough.
