Grey was much too young to remember the sickness. Too young to remember the way the plague swept through the camp like a flood going over a field of flowers. Too young to remember watching as every clan member coughed and racked up blood as if their lungs were trying to escape there putrid body’s. To remember the look on her mother’s face as she watched one of her kits succumb to the fever. To remember hearing her mother’s shrill cry’s as one by one her siblings caught the sickness and one by one they fell like leaves on a waterfall. Her mother’s voice cut through the night, a haunting cry that carried the grief of all the clan as they watched their dearest friends and family die. Too many cats and too fast. All without proper burial, all without the time to say goodbye. By the time Grey’s mother had cried all she could cry, she had already fallen ill to the sickness, and was already too far gone. No one could help her now.

Grey was too young to remember how one day she awoke to all of her family dead. To remember how the Medicine’Cat pushed her into the med’den until the camp was ridden of all the dead cats, flys already taking over the camp. To remember how when she finally came back out of the den, how the only cats alive were those she barely knew. All without family. All without hope.

She was too young to remember how one cat swore and yowled at the remaining cats. How she was chased out of camp by a large Tom with a chipped ear. How the she reared back and swiped at his eye before she ran out of camp, never seen in the clan again. How the toms eye seeped blood, painting his white face pink. How his tears seemed to never end and the infection that came after smelt like a new type of death. How, despite everything, he survived and vowed that day to never mistake the wrath of Star’Clan with the stupidity of the other clans.

Now, as a warrior, she only remembers the peaceful days in camp. The eerily quiet that came after midday, when the elder cats went down to sleep and were no longer howling at each other. The day a Queen had finished her kitting, bringing in a new generation of cats. The peaceful chatter of the leader and medicine cat, deciding on what bounty they would bring in today.

Grey’Spot was much too young to remember the sickness, but she was old enough to witness the new River’Clan
