Scarlett sighed as he realized why Basil had stopped talking and responding. He was passed out cold at the bar. What was he supposed to do now? He nudged Basil. Nothing. He shoved harder almost toppling the other off of the stool. No movement. Scarlett scowled. It’s not like he knew where Basil lived to call a ride for him. He instead pulled out his phone to call Raen. He wasn’t sure who else to turn to.

Raen picked up punctual as ever. “What makes you call so late?” Questioned Raen curiosity in his voice. “Everything okay?”

“No. No it’s not,” said Scarlett frustrated. “Basil dragged me out to a bar then got drunk and passed out!”

Raen’s laughter came through the phone only causing Scarlett more anger at the reaction. “What am I supposed to do?” Demanded Scarlett.

“Stay there. I’ll come pick him up,” said Raen getting over his fit of laughter.

“And what about me?” Asked Scarlett.

“I’ll call you a ride back to your house,” answered Raen.

Scarlett let out a huff, but stopped his response. “We’re at the Crow’s Nest.”

“I’ll be there shortly,” said Raen hanging up.

Scarlett was left with just a scowl and an unconscious Russian who he wasn’t fond of. He glanced over at Basil. What should he do with him? Drag him outside to wait? It wasn’t a great to have him just out on the bar counter. He was tiny after all, Scarlett figured he could haul him out. He got off his stool before turning to the situation in front of him. He lifted Basil’s arm and placed it over his shoulder dragging him unceremoniously off the stool. “Fuck!” Exclaimed Scarlett staggering under the sudden weight. “How are you this heavy?”

“Need help?” Asked another bar patron with a laugh seeing Scarlett’s struggle.

Scarlett just fixed him with a scowl. “No, I’m fine.”

The man threw up his arms in surrender still snickering. “Suit yourself!”

Scarlett continued to basically drag Basil out of the bar. He managed to push open the door with his free arm and scoot them both outside. Once there Scarlett heaved Basil onto the bench outside the building. He fell to the bench himself panting. “Geez why are you so damn heavy?” Scarlett asked the unconscious person next to him. He realized it was stupid to be talking to someone who wouldn’t respond and just leaned his head back to wait and catch his breath.

It wasn’t long before a car pulled up the front parking on the street right in front of them. Scarlett recognized it quickly as one of Raen’s personal vehicles and frowned. He personally drove down here. For some reason that pissed Scarlett off, but there also wasn’t another vehicle. Maybe he was driving Scarlett after all too.

Scarlett heard the door open and saw Raen walk around from the drivers side. He laughed seeing the two of them there. “This is why you shouldn’t accept his invitations,” said Raen walking over to them looking down at the two of them on the bench.

“It’s not like I really wanted to go,” mumbled Scarlett under his breath not honestly having a good excuse for going anyways.

Raen bent down down effortlessly scooping Basil off the bench and picking him up so he didn’t even touch the ground. “Well maybe you’ve learned something tonight,” said Raen. “Keep this one away from alcohol. He has a problem.” He laughed again like it was a hilarious joke.

“Oh I noticed,” said Scarlett. He paused. “Isn’t it an issue for you that he’s always drinking and causing problem? Why do you keep him around?”

“Oh he has his uses,” said Raen with a smile offering no other words of explanation which bothering Scarlett even more. Raen moved to the car opening the door and placing Basil in before moving  around to the driver’s side.

“Hey!” Exclaimed Scarlett stopping him. “What about me?”

“A car will be coming for you shortly,” said Raen.

Scarlett opened his mouth to protest but stopped himself seeing Raen had already turned away. He slumped back on the bench instead to wait in a sullen dejected silence as Raen started the car and drove off. What made that drunk baker so great anyways?
