Ponder works at a coffee shop. That's also where she met the love of her life. Or something of the sorts. I don't know.

btw like the title says this is an au meaning it isnt canon to their lore (or at least it isn't confirmed to be yet). also it isnt completely serious, i wrote this in like 1 hour as "writing practice??" and to get a feel of the characters' personalities since i really wanted to revamp their lore. let me know if it sucks because it probably does. but oh well. i don't really care that much.

Ponder works at a coffee shop.

One day, a girl and her best friend walked in. They seemed about the same age as Ponder. "Yo, can I get a Insertcoffeeorderhere?" the one with long white hair said. "Ooh, me too! But with extra sugar, please," the starry looking one said.

"Got it. One Insertcoffeeorderhere, and another one with extra sugar, coming right up. May I get your names?"

"I'm Liz. This is Eve." The white-haired one rested an arm on the counter. "You?"

Huh?

"Oh, I didn't realize we were introducing ourselves. I was just getting your names for the orders."

"Oh." Liz backed away slightly, which prompted Eve to do the same. A slight tinge of awkwardness or something filled the air. "Well, it was nice meeting you anyway, if you could even call that meeting. Haha."

They walked back to their seats. As Ponder was making their orders, she pondered. That was a strange meeting, especially between a coffee shop barista and a customer. However, there was something... slightly off about the white haired one — that was Liz, Ponder noted — that he couldn't quite put a finger on. Not in a bad way, of course, but it was interesting.

Before she could continue that thought though, the coffee had been finished. She called out their names and they walked up to the counter to take their coffee.

"Thank you!" Liz piped up. "Oh, by the way, I like your style."

Ponder almost jumped at the sudden compliment. "Um— t... thanks, I guess! It's all I can do considering the coffee shop's dresscode." He played with his hair, which was tied into a ponytail. How convenient. "I'm just glad they let me wear this cap, at least. You... you're looking really good, yourself..."

Upon saying that last line, Ponder looked away in embarrasment. What the hell is happening. He straight-up did that to someone he just met? Who does that!? Or not. It's literally just a compliment... people throw those around all the time, even to strangers, don't they? This is probably a normal thing to do. Ignore the fact that he had literally never done this before.

"Oh, uh— thank you!" Liz spoke, interrupting Ponder's train of thought. "You know, you seem like a pretty neat guy. Can I get your number?"

"What?" Ponder was taken aback by that question, and it seems like Eve was too, considering that she immediately turned to Liz, whispering something about being too direct, to which it replied "don't worry about it".

Liz turned back to Ponder. "I'll give you mine too if that's something you're concerned about. You know, if you want."

"Yeah, that would be great." Ponder picked up a piece of paper from who-knows-where and wrote down her number. Liz did the same, and then they exchanged the papers.

"Well, we gotta go back to whatever the hell we were going to do. See you around, uh..."

"Ponder."

"Oh, that's your name? ...That's a pretty nice name. Okay, well, yeah. See you around, Ponder."

They paid and walked out of the coffee shop, leaving Ponder to deal with the next customer. She had to make sure to text Liz some time.
