Prologue

Dragon’s Breath Spire was once a peaceful, but bountiful kingdom in the country of Hyrix. Under the rule of a beloved king and queen whose names were written out of history after a dreadful day.

It started off in celebration, the king and queen had announced the arrival of their children; Four pups that were healthy and born to loving parents. One was a surprise to their parents, glowing eyes, the indication of an imperial Jader. It was decided he would be the next king, this pup was named Arion.

Disaster struck at dusk, a tribe of jaders had invaded with plans of taking over the kingdom. A rather quirky looking witch named Taffeta, a close friend to the queen, was helping the young parents in protecting their pups. “Taffeta! Take them and get away from here!” The queen barked at the witch. “I-I can’t leave you both behind! You won’t survive!” Taffeta pleated as the king gave her the four sleeping pups with a sad look in his eyes. “We know, we’ll hold them off. Take them and hide them from this tribe. They deserve a chance to live.” He said, hearing cracking wood. “Now go!” He said, a crack in his voice as this was the last time he would see his children. “One day Arion, you will take your rightful place here.”

That was the last conversation Taffeta would have with the king and queen. She ran swiftly with the pups nestled in a basket. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure they live!” She thought, running as fast as her paws could carry her. Taffeta would soon arrive in a smaller town, home to another friend of the king and queen; She explained the events and watched the friend sadly, but lovingly take in the three pups. “Take prince Arion to Warrior’s Grove, he will be safe there. He will be able to train and become strong like his father. I will take in his siblings like they are my own. I owe my friend that and more.”

Taffeta smiled sadly and nodded. “Raise them happy my friend, I’ll do my best to keep in touch.” She said before taking off with Arion. Taffeta knew the tribe must be searching for the pups and was glad the three were safe now. She hurried to Warrior’s grove, it was hidden by dense moss and vines along the trees. This is where she met Kotone, he looked rather spooky but was a good soul. “You must take him in, he is the future king. I’m afraid his parents have been killed and their last wish was their children be taken to safety.” Taffeta explained. Kotone thought for a moment before nodding. “I’ll take him and train him. I can see the imperial blood running in his veins, he will grow strong. I advise you to also stay hidden, if this tribe is still looking for you it can become trouble.” He said to her.

Taffeta nodded. “I plan to go into hiding, until the time Arion goes back to take his place.” She said to the Jader. She smiled at Arion sleeping sound. “Farewell Arion, may you grow strong. When the time comes, I’m at your service my king.” Taffeta said quietly before leaving. As the time passed in her travel, she found herself in the cold and snowy kingdom of Frosted Blossom Pass, home to the future queen Noel and her uncle that began raising her after her parents passed due to illness. She panted and looked surprised to see the Jader in front of her, soon explaining what had happened. Noel’s uncle gave her compassion, allowing her to stay hidden in the kingdom. It was a secluded den, but it was enough for her to make it home. Taffeta silently shed tears of anger and grief for her friend she lost, but also relief that she was able to carry out their last wish. “It’s been done dear friend, all four of them are safe and sound. They will do great things, Arion will become strong. Until then, I will wait and see him spark an uprising to that tribe.”

Back at Dragon’s Breath Spire, two Jaders became the new king and Queen; their son would be ruling after them in no time. He was born different, having horns but was known as a domestic type. His parents forced another Jader to use their magic to make their son appear to be an imperial. This is how Zeldris would come to power, but this story is of his downfall.
