Appearance:
Van is an anthropomorphic wolf with fur made up of different shades of brown. He has markings on his ears, face, arm, and tail, all a deep black. His eyes and hair are both a dark shade of brown.

His tail is about the size of his torso, fluffy and reactive whenever he feels a certain emotion. His paws, hands, and feet, are all humanoid in nature.

They are usually seen wearing heavy-duty fight attire, with similar shades as his furr to further blend into the environment: brown cargo pants, black boots, leather and gloves, and a muted cape to shield him from the elements. Van also wears an earpiece and glass set at all times, an intel device for when out on the field.

Personality:

Van, commonly known as “The New Kid”, is a a very introverted, shy type of individual, who keeps all of their emotions to himself. He is pretty self-conscious about his actions and appearance and is riddled with these types of insecurities, he will usually choose to deal with them completely on their own.

The New Kid is mute by choice, usually reserving his voice for either important moments, or times when he needs to communicate in a fail-safe way– besides this, he is non-verbal, and will seldomly respond to any type of question or conversation.

He is also quite learned in sign language and other non-verbal methods of communication, but once again, he is usually uncommunicative by choice. This results in a sort of self-assigned isolation, further separating him from others as a product of his own self-doubt.

Besides this, Van is a pretty stoic individual, often appearing with an unreadable expression and pretty muted reactions, which can irritate people who are not used to Van. The only times when he will open up, act interested, or engage with situations, are when it's personally convenient to him, or when around a person Van cares about. In those situations, he can be quite a passionate individual, stubborn to achieve his goals, and compassionate with other people.

Biography:
Van got his nickname, “The New Kid,” after he moved into a new city. There, a group of other kids his age jumped to bring him in, knowing their abilities could help their cause, and ended up bringing him along for a battle of a lifetime. As usual, introductions continued with Van keeping silent, and so his nickname was born. No one else in town knows about his name, and he isn’t particularly keen on sharing it.

The other city residents have proven to be great allies, but their relationship with Van can still be pretty tense, especially in how they address Van with one-sided communication. They tend to speak to Van a lot without necessarily expecting a direct opinion and have talked about Van to other people while actively in front of him, as they weren’t even there. In return, Van has only spoken one phrase in front of them: “screw you guys, I’m going home.”

When it comes to his family life, Van’s relationship with their parents is... strained, to say the least. Knowing that Van has the ability to speak, willingly choosing not to, does not go very well in his household. Van can tell that they try to make a connection, but no matter what they do, he has never quite felt very comfortable around them. And they are frustrated with his lack of trying to fix things with verbal communication as if that were to be the fix to all things. He doesn’t really know what to think about them.

Combat:
Van is especially adept with heavy, two-handed weapons, mainly a great axe, and a bat. His fighting style, which is more akin to a traditional fighter, relies on proximity melee attacks and heavy-hitting blows, which often make him an amazing offender in battle ranks. Still, Van is quite the tactician and tends to use his brain over his brawn when dealing with the most dire of situations. They will only fight when in imminent danger, or when instructed to by one of their friends or direct supervisors.

Trivia:
     > Come winter or summer, Van’s cape is one of his favorite possessions: the full-bodied, hooded garment is both thick for insulation in cold weather, and lite enough to shield him from the shade in the sun. It can be used as a blanket, bedroll, and, of course, a piece of clothing.

     > The axe that Van carries around was gifted to him when enlisting in battle, by one of the first friends he ever made. He was able to quickly make use of it and learn how to wield it for intense fighting and has served them well through the strain that is war.

     > Being mute is quite convenient when people around them don’t realize it’s by choice. More than once, Van has been approached by people that spill secrets or sensitive information, completely convinced that their quiet and uncommunicative nature means their words are safe from being spread. Van will most likely disregard whatever they heard if it's not worth the effort, but if the information seems to be useful, he’ll be quick to take advantage of it.

     > Van is sometimes seen with a couple of bandaged wounds on his cheek or jaw. They are all patched up with small band-aids or sticky gauze, shielding the afflicted patch of skin and keeping it fairly clean– Van himself learned how to patch wounds for both themselves and others. Sometimes though, he might be wearing a band-aid without any wounds behind it. He has a reputation to maintain.
