Print Screen (Born Jasper Keay; 28 December 1993 – 1 January 2021) was a Superhero ranked within the Top Five in the United States. She was well known for her rivalry with the Villain Backspace, mentorship with The Golden Guardian, her quick rise to fame, and eventual tragic death.

Print Screen was born in Henderson, Nevada. She started her career early, volunteering locally as soon as she had graduated in 2011. Soon after, she gained the attention of the Southwest Guild, and was assigned to Team Media alongside News Flash, doing publicity work in Las Vegas. She quickly ascended the popularity rankings, and in 2016, she left the team to start her solo career. At the time of starting it, she was within the Top Hundred, ranked at number ninety-seven.

As a solo hero, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland and found her niche as a family-friendly hero for the people. In 2017, she had her first publicized battle with Backspace, who became the hero’s legally-recognized nemesis in the following months. With the attention she was getting in the media, Print Screen managed to climb the ranks enough to enter the Top Ten, acquainting herself with The Golden Guardian and High Tide. Her connections with them only increased their collective popularity, Print Screen entering the Top Five alongside The Golden Guardian by the start of 2018.

Print Screen’s death in 2021 was heavily publicized, having occurred in broad daylight in Center Plaza, Baltimore. It was her final battle with Backspace, planned to push her into the Top Three. The battle ended with both parties perishing by total body disruption. Print Screen was nationally mourned, and her death is considered a factor in the retirement of The Golden Guardian.

Early life

Jasper Keay was born on 28 December 1993, at Fremont Medical Center in Henderson, Nevada, to Douglas Keay and Marjorie Clifton-Keay. She attended West Horizon High from fall of 2007 to summer of 2011. She was involved in many extracurricular activities, including drama club, archery, and the student council, in preparation for her heroic aspirations. By the time she had graduated, she was already a well-known figure in her community, praised for her passion and charisma. She worked with many local volunteer groups, “dedicated to bettering the community”.

The moniker of “Print Screen” was chosen as a product of a misunderstanding, Jasper having mistaken the term for the process of screen printing when she was younger. Instead of correcting the mistake, she decided to take it in stride, claiming any confusion it caused was intentional..

Heroism
Guild Work

Print Screen joined the Southwest Guild in the late summer of 2011, and was officially signed onto Team Media on the 18th of August that year, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada as a result. As a member of Team Media, Print Screen was responsible for both offensive and defensive positions, able to use her paintbrush to summon both shields and weaponry, and was skilled at both ranged and hand-to-hand combat. She assumed a leadership role alongside News Flash, though never personally considered herself such.[5] Notable battles that she was involved with while part of the team were Team Media vs. Excalibur’s Dragon (2012), Team Media vs. The Mob (2014), and Team Media vs. Atom Buster (2015). Her career with Team Media was somewhat short, as her popularity outgrew the rest of the team. On 4 November 2016, she officially left the guild in order to pursue work as an independent hero.

Solo Career

To start her career as a solo hero, Print Screen moved across the country to Baltimore, Maryland. Having already made a name for herself as part of Team Media, it was easy for her to quickly gain more attention and acclaim. She was very passionate about her work, using her platform to support and advocate for those aspiring to become heroes themselves. Unlike many members of her former team, Print Screen avoided using adult language or innuendo,[6] gaining the favor of parents and teachers, giving her a place as a household name. Print Screen’s fights were most often very colorful and fast-paced thanks to her signature style, and on many occasions, she could be found helping the cleanup team afterwards. On 3 January 2017, Print Screen had her first publicized battle against the known supervillain Backspace. The two would go on to become consistent rivals, Print Screen centering her career on their dynamic.

While working outside of a specific Guild, Print Screen would often pair up with other heroes in the area, her influence spanning much of the East Coast. Notable figures included The Golden Guardian and High Tide, the latter of which she could be found spending time with outside of work as well. Some sources say that the two may have been involved romantically, but High Tide has yet to comment on the rumor. Print Screen’s occasional collaborations with The Golden Guardian were considered vastly successful in the media, earning the pair notoriety among their peers.

Death

On 1 January 2021, at Center Plaza in Baltimore, Maryland, Print Screen was killed alongside Backspace during what was intended to be their final battle. As neither death was planned, and Print Screen’s reputation as a family-friendly hero, the entire event was televised nationwide to millions of viewers and recorded by dozens of onlookers. The sudden and unexpected death of an extraordinarily popular Superhero brought statements from figures worldwide and many tributes by members of the public. People left flowers, candles, cards, and personal messages at her place of death for many months afterward. The hero’s untimely and early death has earned her a membership to what some call the 27 Club.

Her funeral, having taken place on 4 January, was held privately in her home town of Henderson, Nevada, with only those the hero was most close with. Though, many journalists attempted to report on it regardless. Due to the nature of her death, what remained of the body was cremated and distributed amongst family members.

Legacy
Public Image

Print Screen, in the public eye, was very popular among children and parents due to her bright, flashy costume and powers and her general family friendly air. She would often use her platform as a celebrity in order to inform and advise younger generations of aspiring heroes, especially using her connections with The Golden Guardian to do so. She preferred to keep her personal information private, much of her information remaining unknown to this day.

Similarly, she seemed to keep her out of work relationships to herself as well. She would avoid paparazzi as much as possible, even going as far as to spray paint the cameras of some that got too close, on more than one occasion. Her relationship with High Tide was something that neither would comment on, leading to heavy speculation within the media.

Controversy

Despite how well-loved Print Screen was with the public, every celebrity is victim to being scrutinized by the media. One point of controversy that remained throughout her career was her sexuality. Despite not being open about her own identity, Print Screen was vocal about her support for the LGBT community, especially youths. More traditional or conservative media outlets consistently voiced their disapproval over this facet of Print Screen’s career, but more often than not the support outweighed any negativity.
