[ Bramblesnap ]

The drought sure took its toll on everyone, and of course, he was no exception. He may have had strength and skill on his side, but the lack of water only made him just as weary as the rest. Unfortunate circumstances were no rarity in these lands, but a drought in the winter was a new one. A situation nobody was all too sure how to handle.

Turning to the small calico beside him, his whiskers twitched. Bramblesnap assessed her features before facing out toward the mountains around them. "Ain't the first time they let us nearly die out, y'know?" He started, huffing a breath between words. "Let us starve back in the day. Did shit all, it's gettin' typical of 'em."

With the drought going on Deermouse had been extra fidgety, and most of all concerned for Bramblesnap she didn't want to fret over the tom too much but concern weighed heavy on the small she-cats shoulders. Things in her old home had never been this dire- but clan life was scary.

When Bramblesnap addressed her she flicked her ears up looking to him, a frown forming on her face. "They do this often?" She seemed rather mortified her worry only growing. "Why don't they move the clan? Certianly a place with more water exists-"

A hefty sigh left the tom, coming deep from his chest as he grit his teeth together. "Well, yew've got as good've an idea as I, Mousey." Although his words were almost some kind of retort, they droned on into something more confused - he couldn't quite wrap his head around the mentality of their "leaders."

Bramblesnap sucked on his teeth in momentary thought, words whizzing aroud in his mind yet he managed to hold them within. They'd have escaped him sooner hadn't he been eyeing the scenery around the two of them. Ways of obtaining water were slim down here, he knew that much. Scrubbing moss against morning frost had grown old, the idea of collecting snow from the mountain peaks had crossed him, yet he hadn't dared try just yet. Even if he did attempt such a venture, it wouldn't be for the sake of those who cared not for him.

The tabby turned to Deermouse,  torn tufted ears pushing back against his head. "Too stubborn to get off their asses. Or just flat out fuckin' lazy. 'S what we get for lettin' the likes of 'er run this place." Applestar was as good as any she-cat in his mind. Fimbling around and flailing in their own self-pity and gossip. He could only scoff, and out here, his words were only heard by one feline who would bend over backwards for him. He didn't have to put up many defences. "Been like this since I was young, though. Felt like the only one who could see their flaws sometimes."

Deermouse's fidgety paws traced patterns in the dusty ground as she cast a concerned glance toward Bramblesnap. "Suppose we need a change of leadership. This drought's got me fidgety as a squirrel in a storm, and the way things are going, I can't help but fret it ought to be different its not fair."

Deermouse shifted her weight, her words remaining soft, however it was clear her own frustration was mounting. The more she listend to Bramblesnap the more she realized he truly was the only cat in the clan she could trust, the only one who seemed to see the flaws in this place.

"I'm just glad to have you." She would say, giving the tom a soft smile trying to lighten the mood. "Even with everything going on, it's nice to have a tom who's here to protect me." Deermouse was possibly a bit head over heels, a problem she'd yet to realize- to her Bramblesnap could do no wrong he was her hero coming in to save and guide her.
