My Lifelong Wish
Just a short poem I wrote many years ago.
I watch them leap and twirl and dance.
I listen to them talk and laugh and sing.
I wish I could join them.
To swim alongside them in the endless cerulean blue.
To let the waters wash away my fears and limitations.
"It is not so hard," I hear them say.
"It could all be yours; if only you took the chance."
Why should I think them wrong?
Why should I wait any longer?
Not, "It is too hard," but, "Let us do more!"
Not, "Someday I will," nay, "Today I AM!"
And I will join them in the reflected sky.
And we will play and teach and learn.
And we will be as one, I and the rulers of the sea.

Author's Notes
This is a poem about me watching my favorite animals, playing, dancing, and singing. Yes, that's right, they are dolphins!
I've always found dolphins fascinating creatures for as long as I can remember. They are so curious, know how to have a good time, and make such beautiful music. I even tried to learn to swim like a dolphin when I was younger. I often imagined that the pool or the ocean was not just water, but a reflection of the sky itself, so that I was "flying" through an endless underwater sky. As I would watch the dolphins, I would imagine that they could really jump into sky itself, and swim on forever...
