How he lost his tooth. (Water Wizard version)

One last time Nalu looked up at the threatening, dark sky as he peddled fiercely on his surfboard. His heart beating against his chest from both excitement and effort, leaving the beach and other youngsters hundreds of meters behind him.
The restless, salty water splashed and whirled onto his face.

Not a moment did he doubt that he was going to surf today. The fact the others chickened out, only made him want to prove himself more.
I’ll show them how it’s done.
The sea became weirdly calm as a deep roar sounded from below.
    This is it!

Quickly, the bold surfer turned his board around, facing the direction of the beach again and started paddling like a madman.
The surface under his board raised rapidly as the mass of water got pushed up against the reef below.
    I shall tame this monster!
The boy pressed his body up and sat on his knees, clamping his hands firmly around his board to cope with the velocity and raging winds. The water lifted him to at least four floors high before it started curling. It was now or never.
Nalu threw his body weight forward, jumping upright on the foam and wooden board so it would stay on top of the ever growing wave.
His adrenaline levels maxed out when he found balance and managed to ride on the crown of the monstrous wave for a moment.
    It’s my crown now!

Deafening crushes roared as the wave proceeded to form a pipeline from one of the sides. The fight had only just begun. The experienced surfer slid his way down from the crown to the body of the beast. For a moment, the boy forgot about his exhausted body. Muscles in his legs protested as he tried to keep balance, causing him going too fast and falling backwards into the wall of water.

It all happened in a few seconds. Yet, it felt like ages.
His body got punched, kicked and thrashed around. And when his surfboard hit his face, all went black.

Nalu woke up again, face down in the sand while the other youths ran up. Mixed tastes of salt, sand and blood filled his mouth while he quickly tried to get back on his feet like nothing happened.
A painful red mark around his ankle was all what’s left of his surfboard. It didn’t survive the fight.
He turned to the group of youngsters who were staring in awe at the tamer of the beast.
“And that’s how you take a crown.”
His face was swolen and painful, but his smile was broad.
A smile which was now missing a tooth.
