Pestilence PA - Quest

Pestilence- PA Quest : Grim

Soft steps could be heard making indents in the dirt patches that had been uncovered from old roads crumbling away from the months of heavy weather conditions. Large urban area spanned across Isla Pera, littered with old buildings covered in overgrown plant life. The buildings overhung the city streets or what was left of the old abandoned human structures , the echo of loose rubble sometimes falling in the distance. Grim, a young dacentrurus had made his way into the deeper urban area within Isla pera, he stepped over rubble that blocked his way. His black spines clattered as he walked his weight shifting with each step, he had been traveling for most of the day it now starting to get dark. He shook his head Trying to keep awake , as the journey had made him a little tired. His tail swung behind him , as he kept his pace.

Further ahead he had seen a turn off from the main road , it was a lot darker then the main road he had been traveling on. It seemed to be a tight squeeze for the herbivore but he decided to investigate slowly sniffing the entrance to the dark area.  Grim narrowed his eyes studying the tight pathway , he did need to find a spot to rest but this seemed a bit sketchy. Looking behind him a couple times he sighed before squeezing his larger body into the slim area. It was uncomfortable but he had made it through wiggling to help him get into it, once he was through it opened into a small dark room that had a stairwell with rusty handles lining it.

Studying the room Grim sniffed the rusted railing, the smell bugging his beak. The place seemed old and abandoned for a while; it sparked interest in the herbivore. “ this doesn’t seem like a bad spot to rest” he mumbled, kicking over some rubble as he wandered Around the small room. The dark mouth of the stairwell pulled at the dinosaur’s curiosity, he shifted a little feeling a little uncomfortable as he stared into the abyss. Reluctantly he took a step down the steps soon disappearing into the dark stairwell his tail spikes being the last thing to be seen of him as he went down. Grim was now in an underground of the urban , dim lights lined the abandoned dark stone walls. None seemed to have worked for years, lots of glass lined the floor crushed into a thin dust. Lots of dinosaurs travel through the urban areas so it wasn’t uncommon to see tracks of others.

Grim stayed close to the wall as the faint sound of running water could be heard further down the stone tunnel. It was eerily quiet water dripping from old pipes above him , Grim kept quiet as he walked watching his steps. His spines scraped the side of the stone at points due to being so close to it, plant growth lined the cracks in the stone. The urban areas were always amazing to explore hiding a lot of hidden gems, Grim narrowed his eyes trying to make out objects in the dark. The sound of rushing water getting louder as he kept moving towards it, he needed to find a place to rest as the tiredness was setting in.

He had finally found the source of the water, that took a steep drop it seemed to be an underground waterway. He looked down and it was steep but he could possibly make his way down. Grim weighed his options as he kept looking and scanning the area around him, there was one thing off about the water: it seemed discolored and off.  But grim was curious about the waterway and where it led too, and by the sound of it getting louder as he tried making his way down the steep area. Keeping his tail to the side so his balance wasn’t off.

The water pooled at the bottom of the steep drop off and it had a slight green tint to it. And lots of derbies floating inside the water, Grim had made his way partly before feeling a slippery area. “ What a great idea Grim, such a great spot to rest, totally not creepy”. He sighed soon reaching a flat spot at the bottom that brought him right near the water, a puzzled look soon crossed the dacentrurus’s face. The water was a green tint but almost like a neon look and the smell was awful, he backed up plugging his beak “ That stinks what the hell is in there?” he mumbled his eyes watering slightly.

The water seemed to bubble and almost came off thick with slime. Grim looked around seeing many files covering dead mice that littered the floor, looking closer to inspect it. It seemed the water was affecting the wildlife down here and not in a good way as it seemed to be toxic to them. “ What is going on?” he said quietly starting to get the chills from this place, it seemed to have some toxic presence in the air.

Grim felt as if he was being watched by large eyes , he brought his tail closer to him hearing wet footsteps but they seemed somewhat large. “Who’s there..” Grim stuttered from his beak, before taking a sigh of relief when a mouse jumped out of the darkness. Grim relaxed his tail before seeing a large tongue snag the mouse from near the water, a fairly large toad slowly hobbled out of the darkness. The mouse squirming trying to escape the grasp from the toads mouth. Grim backed up seeing the large toads size, it wasn’t bigger than him but its size was not normal. The toad soon swallowed the mouse full before turning its attention on Grim, its blackhole of eyes scanning the dacentrurus for movement.

Grim froze as he watched the toad scan the room for any more movement of prey. It paused before slowly making its way back into the green tinted stream disappearing into the water leaving behind bubbles. Grim stood still before no bubbles were left at the surface of the pool. He had never seen a toad of that size and it definitely was not normal, he stared at the water that the toad had entered and gulped “ I better leave .. there's something wrong with the water”. He kept his tail at the ready in case the toad decided to show itself again as he made his way back up the steep area.

He planted his feet to start the rough journey back up to where he had come down from. Grim wanted to get out of this place and it was no longer a good spot to rest. The water was contaminated , and was home to a rather unnaturally large toad that seemed to be connected to what was in the water. It seemed like a sickness was plaguing the island as he did recall seeing lots of dead fish floating near the banks and rivers on the way to the urban area’s.Grim finally made his way up the steep area getting past the railing and back up the stairs into the darkroom he first was in.

He began squeezing out of the slim area he had entered and shook his plates as he made it through gathering himself. “ There were so many dead mice, all in one spot… it must be the water,” he said, looking back at the dark alleyway. He began making his way down the street walking past many broken buildings trying to understand what was going on, as a lot of wildlife being dead suddenly meant a sickness was plaguing the island. “ okay no more water not from here at least” Grim said shaking his head , as he began to smell something off and it stunk “ what is that smell?” he said, stopping before looking around trying to locate it.

Grim followed the smell as he pushed past some bushes outside of the urban area’s endpoint , pushing through the thick brush before stumbling upon a dead parasaur next to the river. The smell was rancid as he approached slowly as it lay next to the water, barely making it from the river. The large herbivore seemed to be there to drink but something had happened but it showed no signs of being attacked but wet from the water. “ yeah.. Something is going on” he mumbled, backing away from the river and large dead herbivore. A plague was running rampant on the island and it seemed to be able to cause the water to be contaminated. Big or small nothing was safe against it even large dinosaurs like Grim himself, he had to warn others about the water not being safe and causing an unknown sickness whenever it was drunk or touched possibly. Grim kept his distance from the river as he traveled back into the lush forest looking for others to warn and tell about the unnaturally large toad he had ran into.
