Hazardous Expeditions- Rin

The hot sun beat down on the rough dry ground , cracks looked like veins traveling across the ground. Dust kicked up as the wind swished it around as the heat consumed the wasteland. Rocky walls lined the caverns that lay silent within the arid land and mass desert areas. Large dried cracks lined the crumbling ground, footprints left crusted into the dry area. A black silhouette could be seen traveling in these bare lands, it was an albertosaurus, a large carnivore who had a taste for flesh. Rin found himself in the harsh savanna’s and its vast desert plains, the intense heat radiating off his black scales. The large carnivore was out hunting for food and he had followed a scent of a large herbivore tracking its footprints that were left behind. He scanned the vast area of dirt crumbling under his feet as he walked sniffing the ground occasionally seeing if he could locate anything.

He let out a low growl before shaking the dust off him from the small winds that blew in every once in a while. This was a rough area to traverse for most dinosaurs and most didn’t dare make their way through here unless they were hardy. Rin was used to harsh environments and traveled many times on the island; this wasn’t his first time. The plant life was very little within the savannas and nothing grew and if it did it didn’t last long, as to why most herbivores never came out here but the hardy ones did. Rin finally picked up a scent, his pupils turning into tight slits as he looked forwards seeing a large figure far ahead of him, he growled before setting off to tail his prey. Up ahead a large herbivore had been making its way through the hot desert, it being a large male shunosaurus looking for a water source out in the barren lands.

A small herd of shunos walked in front of the large male unknown as Pyxis, his large tail swinging back and forth as they honed in on looking for a water source due to the heat. The large herbivores were rather thirsty and more than usual and they were on the move to find it. Rin trailed behind the small herd looking for a weak individual who would fall behind, he blinked, watching closely now that he thought to himself he was rather thirsty due to the extra dry feeling the environment held more than usual. His throat was dry but he ignored it as he picked up his pace following the large herbivores as they left behind footprints left in the cracked ground. The large herbivores paid no mind to the danger following behind them, tails flicking in the desert heat. The large male looked back seeing the black albertosaurus following behind but the need to drink was more important as they grew more thirsty by the second. 

As Rin kept pace with the large herbivores he noticed his feet sinking deeper into the dry ground with every step, he looked down to examine the ground before sniffing it. The ground seemed to be wet but there was no water in site so how was it mushy. He shook the thought out returning to his main goal and that was food. The large carnivore was making distance between them getting closer and closer with each stride he took his tail swaying behind him as he moved. The dryness in his throat grew as time passed in the dry lands. He was getting closer and closing in on his prey, teeth at the ready.

The shunosaurus herd began to get closer as they moved and were aware of the large predator stalking them, Pyxis now behind putting himself between the carnivore and his herd. A water source ahead of them came into view a small pond. As Rin followed behind he noticed dead plant life and lots of it, he knew not many plants grew here but there were some that could survive the harsh weather. But it included those ones as well, as they approached the pond something was off as the shunosaurus began letting out worried belows and coming to a halt. Recently dead shunosaurus lay beside the pond also in the search of water , but they were wet so they had made it but did they really? The smell of carcasses filled Rins nose as he approached the pond seeing all the shuno’s stopped and not drinking. He looked puzzled coming into view as he saw the dead shuno caracasses lay beside the pond's riverbed.  The large herbivores moved away from the water as Pyxis redirected his herd to keep moving and shook his head at Rin to give a warning not to follow.

Rin slowly moved to the carcasses sniffing in the scent, these were fresh not old. It didn't seem like they died of dehydration as they had made it to the pond? The large carnivore looked confused as he sniffed the carcass before looking towards the dirty water as it sat stagnant in the mud. The heat and dryness had gotten to him as his head began to hurt and he felt fatigued , feeling weak in the legs. Rin swayed as he reached down to drink the water to combat the heat he was feeling, the water didn’t seem different or off. Rin looked up before going to take a step towards the carcass as the hunger took over he began to put one foot up on the carcass before ripping into the soft skin. As the large carnivore dug into his meal the feeling of a headache returned in the back of his head, this time worse than the first feeling. “ Argh my head..” he growled, closing his eyes to refocus but it wasn’t helping. The dryness he felt in his throat returned again as the place felt extra dry even though he had just drank, looking back at the shunosaurus who lay dead near the water. “ what is going on here? I don’t feel too good, '' he let out before feeling the hard ground now on his side. The large carnivore had collapsed due to the headache he was experiencing , Rin began trying to roll back on his feet but he felt weak, his heavy tail keeping him on his side.

Rin growled and began breathing heavily as the heat began to stress him out, he began thrashing trying to beat the headache that ran through his head. “I gotta get up, something is off here right now” he thought to himself. He finally got himself rolled over onto his feet, his head hammering with pain as he laid his head on the dry ground. Trying to muster the strength to get himself to his feet letting out a painful growl, finally he pushed himself off the ground standing up on his feet. Rin closed his eyes trying to refocus his head to stop the pounding before shaking it, he began walking back the way he came from the pond. Every step was harsh as his legs wanted so badly to give out on the large carnivore , something was off, the herd didn’t stop to drink and the dead shunosaurus did not ease his thoughts. The pounding seemed to get worse within Rins head as he kept moving the dry cracks in the ground, seeming harder to traverse than before due to the weakness in his legs, his large tail almost throwing him off balance every now and then. It was getting worse the longer he was in the savanna, his eyes now becoming blurry from his headache  that seemed to start or get worse from drinking the water from the puddle.

Rin was walking blindly now between the pounding headache and his eyes blurring in and out.  He sniffed following his scent from where he had traveled walking into the dry area.  He had only one goal and that was to get out as far as he could from the puddle but little did he know eating the shunosaurus carcass was not a good idea , his stomach now beginning to turn as he walked. These symptoms were not normal or anything he had ever experienced before, “ my head..” he mumbled under his breath letting out painful huffs as he kept his pace, every step getting worse as he did. He was getting close to being out of the dry area but it felt like time wasn’t moving due to weather and what he was experiencing. Rin took one final step before slamming onto the ground, his chin hitting the rough ground, he closed his eyes as the headache took over pounding and sending painful shivers down his body.  His stomach now began to cause problems as he felt something coming up letting out what he had eaten onto the ground covered in saliva. Time had past Rin seemed to have laid there for hours fighting the symptoms that coursed through his large body, finally opening his eyes seeing he had made it out of the area he was in when he collapsed. “ That was rough,” he said before starting into the dry desert, nothing to be seen in site.
