Chapter 1

He’s really beginning to regret what he’s signed up for, as he stares down into the dark cave below him, it seems to go on forever but he highly doubts that. The figure beside him looks uncomfortable, he didn’t sign up for this at all, he’s not even part of the guild. Just wrong place wrong time.

Gabriel was doing as he always does when it’s been a quiet week, heading to the job board outside of the library to see what they can do. It’s earlier then he thought this would happen after that whole Summerween event and what ended up happening, he’s still trying to wrap his head around the fact there are now vampires and weremon in their world, though he’s a human that became a pokemon, so it’s really not that strange in the grand scheme of things.
The board is emptier then normal, though there’s a large one up near the top which draws his eyes in, it’s fancy looking as he drags his eyes across taking everything in. Hu, so they want them to go explore one of the older dungeons again to get information about it. There’s a couple of others around him but he pays no heed to them. He was also hoping that this could be a group activity, but Good Boy’s got a cold and Steven’s agreed that going down into a dungeon isn’t the best thing when you’re legally blind. Glancing he checks the paper again, ugh it does suggest you shouldn’t do this alone, he wanted to help but he can’t do that being the only one in his group currently up to going through dungeons.
“All right you lot, if you get into at least pairs I can assign you a dungeon so we’re not all doing the same one.” A voice calls out, and Gabriel tries to skirt away, muttering apologise as he bumps into people, trying to get out of the crowd so he’s not accidently counted with the rest of them.
“And you to makes our final pair.” The voice says again and Gabriel jumps slightly at the closeness of him, it glances around before realising this woman is referring to him, and… Looking beside him, he sees that Gardivore fusion that he’s seen around a few times.
“Oh no, look…” The other ‘mon starts to explain but the woman, she’s Talonflame, well that explains how she got over to him so quickly. This Talonflame just shushes the other.
“We don’t care if you’re not officially in a team together, this is an all hands to the deck situation that will benefit everyone.” She says in a slightly irritating singsong voice, he goes to object again but she’s already flown off.

Gabriel feels pretty nervous and awkward, he’s not good at this whole, befriending new pokemon thing, but he probably should as they’re going to need to rely on each other, he’s also certain that this is the fusion he’s seen around him a lot, though that’s just a coincidence, he has no idea who this is.
“Hello there, I’m so sorry you’ve been dragged into this, I was trying to get away because I’d rather do this with one of my own team but they’re all indisposed right now.” Oh he hopes he isn’t oversharing, “Oh yes, my name’s Gabriel.” He tacks on.
The whole point he was trying to get to when speaking to him was to introduce angelself to him.
The other pokemon looks taken aback for a second, as if shocked that Gabriel is actually speaking to him, but he hides it as fast as he can, it was just too long and Gabriel has never been so interested in what could be going on in his head.
“Right yes, I do not blame you, Gabriel. You may call me Kozmotis. I must admit I am no adventurer, so I will be relying on you helping me out here.” He laughs and Gabriel is very enamoured with it, it’s deep but warm, not mean in anyway.
Gabriel smiles back, glad that the other pokemon isn’t upset with him in anyway,
“That’s fine, I’ve become a rather dab hand at this since I arrived.”

This is what leads us to now, the two pokemon staring down into the dungeon that they’ve been assigned they glance nervously at each other, yeah they were not given an easy one.
“I’ll let you go first.” Kozmotis says in that same purring manner he’s been using this whole time with Gabriel. He has managed to unnerve it quite a bit, seeming to know more then he should from what Gabriel’s given him, such as Steven’s name and the fact Good Boy is currently sick – though Gabriel has just tagged this to the fact he’s been muttering to himself and it’s not like they’re quiet about their lives – he’s pretty sure that most people that live around him know a lot about them all. Considering the fact that he’s also sure that Kozmotis must live near them with how often he’s now sure he’s seen him around them in the background.
Gabriel can’t help but stare back at him with a raised eyebrow and a look of disapproval, but he swallows it down, it probably does make sense that he goes in first, he knows what it’s like to be an adventurer.
Carefully, Gabriel clambers into the cave, following the steps that have been loosely carved into the wall, after he’s a good few steps in, he can hear Kozmotis follow him, which is reassuring, he did worry that he may have been left going in here alone. Worried that he’s going to be left going in here alone with no support.
The floor is cold as Gabriel’s paws touch it, and is rather jolted by the temperature change, expecting it to be the same temperature as the steps down.
“Are you okay?” Kozmotis calls out, and Gabriel looks up to him. The other pokemon has frozen where he’s stood on the steps and Gabriel can’t help but chuckle, hoping that it comes off as not overly mean and instead in the playful manner that he meant it to be originally.
“Yes, I’m fine. The floor was just colder then I expected and it was a jolt to the system. Now come down here, the sooner we are both in here, the sooner we’re able to learn what else we need to about this dungeon so we can go back home.” He calls up, Kozmotis nods, but hesitates when it comes to peeling himself off of the cave wall and finally taking the rest of the steps down.
Gabriel’s moved away from the bottom of the steps and is looking around, when Kozmotis finally makes it the rest of the way in, he also jolts slightly as he touches the floor and Gabriel now realises quite how cold it is down here as he spots the air condense into a visible puff around Kozmotis as he speaks again.
“Right well, it’s freezing down here, so let’s get going before I freeze to death.” He huffs out, a little dramatically for Gabriel’s taste, but then he guesses the other isn’t covered in a layer of fur.

Everything’s going fine, the dungeon clearly pre-explored a few traps visible as they pass, it’s surprisingly empty of pokemon, but Gabriel notes that Kozmotis never drops his guard always at attention as he walks, as if expecting to be attacked at any second.
It’s all going fine…
