"It IS absolutely necessary! How else will we ward off the evil spirits?  OF COURSE THEY'RE REAL. WE JUST HAVEN'T SEEN ANY BECAUSE OF THE PUMPKIN  WARDS!" Yuki had demanded a quick stop at a nearby pumpkin patch. The  first autumn he had spent with Tidus, he heard about this pumpkin ward  tradition. Yuki wasnt about to risk his security so he immediately went  out and bought a large pumpkin (with Tidus' money of course). A knife, a  big mess, and several minutes later, a barely passable jack-o-lantern  was riding passenger seat. That evening Yuki slept surprisingly well,  and ever since then he has been convinced that this tradition was able  to ward off all sorts of evil creatures of the night. Tidus didnt  particularly believe in this superstition but he indulged the small  furry. If he wanted a pumpkin, he would get a pumpkin. Yuki quickly  threw on his starleaf cloak. The leaves shimmered a dull blue, a sharp  contrast to the night. He threw on his hood making sure to tuck in his  ears and jumped off the caravan, losing his footing and tumblind down  the hill. He graciously landed face first into a large orange gourd. His  head was firmly wedged inside, and when the panic set in he flailed  around like a headless chicken. Tidus picked up the kitbull and plucked  him from the gourd. His head and his cloaked were covered in the  pumpkiny innards of Yukis innocent victim. The pumpkin unfortunately did  not survive the ordeal, having split into several pieces. Alas their  hunt would continue. Although they never managed to find another pumpkin  as large and shapely as the first one, they did manage to find a small  but very cute pumpkin. It was small enough for Yuki to carry. With a bit  of help from Tidus, the top was cut open, the innards extracted and a  face was carved into the side. With a candle placed inside, Yuki slept  well knowing their caravan was safe for the season.
